OUT OF TOPIC: Where can I find good info on current Stang numbers?

after reading this thread I have decided it would be best to cancel my order for the rx-8 (even at $1000 under msrp). Damn, and it would have been here tomorrow or wednesday.

the 5.9 is from car and driver...
anyway, yesterday my bro. is driving the car, we ahve a cd playing, at a stop sign pulling into 65+mph traffic.
ac is on 2
dsc is completely off..
cd is playing...
i knew he was gunna mash the pedal, so im watching the seconds on the thing
anyway, it turns to 3:50 when he starts moving, and when he hits 60, it JUST turns to 3:56, so he was at 60mph BEFORE the clock ticked the 6th second, so im going to bet it was 5.9 or possibly even better

Also, I was not "flaming" the guy for not liking the RX-8, I am "Flaming" him because he owns a Ford Mustang, which is also slow...and its a Ford. (Unless he owns a Cobra, or Mach 1, which are both fast or a 'new' GT, which is somewhat quick. If this is the case he should have specified")

Your correct RX8-TX- most mustangs are very slow, they are no faster than the RX-8, especially the older ones. Ok, the Cobra is fast, but the cobra is a minority compared to all of the Mustang owners.
The fact is, people drive these 'base' mustangs, or even the older GT models and think they own the best car in the world, when it really sucks. It's a FORD, and all that it has is an engine. Too bad this engine is in a car that weighs so much, plus its a Ford.
By the way, I have driven the best Mustang out there, a 2003 Cobra, which costs many a thousand more than the RX-8. Even though it is faster, it still is less fun to drive than an RX-8, and its a FORD.

I tried to look them up on C&D and R&T but couldn't find anything reasonable. They've got plenty of Mach 1s and Cobras reviewed though.
Anyways, where I want to go is: IF in paper the cars perform like this:
Mustang GT ('98):
0-60: 6.2 secs
1/4: 15 secs
RX-8 ('04)
0-60: 5.9 secs**
1/4: 14.5 secs**
** A merciless clutch drop was indeed needed here.
Rob, please correct the numbers if they are wrong!
Now, based on this, wouldn't you say that 'fast' is just part of your perception? (And I know that an 8 doesn't even get close to an 8 cylinder's 'Uumph' at high gears.)

As for "a step forward"...I'd like to spend some time on this. What exactly do you mean? Do you mean, why didn't I go out and spend even more than 40K on my next car? Well, the answer is quite simple really...perceived value and utility based on spending. A close friend and I both test drove M3's, and while I certainly don't want to provoke debate with any M3 drivers on the board, I barely noticed a single thing over my 330. A tad more power maybe...but in my opinion, not worth the additional 20K on top of 40K to simple get the M badge on the rear of the car (if you're into that).
No, I stepped forward and purchased my RX-8 because I thought it had more contemporary styling, better handling...and hell, it is just plain fun as **** to drive! A blast.
I think that is why I am going to recommend that you not buy an RX-8 Robisten8....in fact, I'm not going to allow you to buy one. I've already contacted all of the Mazda dealers in Texas and warned them about you.
Have fun with your mustang...keep us posted on how long your mullet gets :D

Rotarymagic.....ummm where are you shopping for cars. The 03 Cobra with 390 hp sold for 33k at many dealers and you can find used 03's for about 27k. Don't ever compare the 8 to an 03 Cobra. 03 Cobra's are running low 11's with very minor mods such as exhaust, intake and pulley exchange. Add $1500 to an 03 Cobra and you will have 475 rwhp (that's rear wheel horsepower) for you non-gearheads.
BTW, I drive an 02 GT. Eveyone keeps slamming the older GT's. When's the last time,if ever, you've been to the track. There's a lot of older GT's that are running very fast E/T's and it's soooooo cheap to add mods.
There was really no need to start slamming Stangs. I even said it myself that if the 8 had a little more zoom zoom zoom I would be driving one.

BTW Rob Camaros have almost always ruled the Stangs, espescially in the past 2 decades (except for this year of course, but they soon will again!) Before you go there Blue I don't have a Mullet but I have owned a few Z-28's in my day, nothing like raw straight line torgue and HP...except for the RX-8 of course

Maybe I shouldn't compare an RX8 to a Cobra, but you and some others keep mentioning mods??? Mods mean little to me and mean little to the majority of drivers. So, comparing a car with mods to a stock vehicle is pointless.
If it wasn't pointless then why not get a cadilac and shave 1000 pounds off it, put in a viper engine, mod the engine, then go race it and say it is faster than the RX8 as well? Why? Because I, along with many others, not all, don't care about mods, many people care about cars a person can buy from a dealer. Hmmm...Honda s2000 compared to Mazda RX-8, Nissan 350Z.
I read the other day that Greddy can soup up a new 350Z and have it running a 4.6 0-60. It is cool to read about but not relevent in this discussion along with the majority of discussions about new cars on the market.

TJRX8,
You don't have to tell me about the Z-28's. I had a vortech charged 96 Z-28, but the damn thing spent most of the time in the shop. It was the fastest car I've ever owned.
I made the switch after Chevy announced the stop of the Camaro's production in '02.

Bottom line is, this particular forum is a place for enthusiasts of the latter school of thought...and while input from Rob and his kin are evaluated and appreciated, no one in here is going to be convinced that their money is better spent by going out to buy a Mustang...be it GT, SVT, Cobra or God knows what else they are calling it.
I'm glad not everyone likes/drives the RX-8, because it means mine is just that more special.
PS - Just for the record, you get WAY more ***** driving an RX-8 than a Mustang GT. :p
