I wouldnt go that far. Sometimes older people like older things and dont want anything to do with the new.

Side note: How is everything coming out with the clutch setup from RP Performance and Racing Beat? I've been in contact with them several times a week. Looks like I'm either going to get all my money back or their going to install it right this time. Racing Beat says they think its a alignment problem. Thats what I thought!

Dont know yet. Most likely I'll have them put it on and right this time. Racing Beats has always had good products and I trust them. I think I'll stick with the Racing Beat Setup.

I never purchased my RX8 to impress others, or to look good and classy. I got it for personal preference of how it looks and feels to me. I also purchased STI for that same reason. Now I am selling RX8, but only because my personal preference, lifestyle, and location makes the STI a better year round daily driver, and I simply won't be driving enough anymore to use both cars. I'm aware I'm giving up the classier more refined car, but the same rule goes for STI. I really don't care how people perceive me in any car. I will say though that the STI gets just as much attention, if not more attention, just by a different kind of enthusiast. I personally think for many STI and RX8 owners, that there is a bit of envy. STI owners envy how beautiful the RX8 is, and RX8 owners tend to envy the performance the STI offers. Both are truly wonderful machines, and each give you what the other lacks. Whatever you prefer more is all that really matters, so it shouldn't matter which car looks nicer, and which one has more performance.

I took a girl out the other night who definitely didn't know whether an STi is faster than an 8, but she definitely knew that my car looked good and complimented me on it a couple times. I am almost positive the squared off look of the STi would not get the same compliments.

By non car enthusiasts you are absolutely right. If you take away the true meaning of a machine and judge a book by it's cover purely on looks, the STI can't even come close. From people who know cars, it gets equal compliments. On the road it gets a lot more respect as well, because people know what car is capable of performance wise. The STi is not a chick magnet like RX8 is. It's definitely not a car that sell in the mass form like RX8 can either, because everyday people buy the rx8, and pretty much only car enthusiasts buy the STI. People who compliment STI know what's on inside, and it is something awfully special, as is the RX8, but for an entirely different reason. The RX8 is simply the perfect image car no doubt about it. Even if we didn't buy it for that reason, it cannot escape it because it simply looks STUNNING.

You're right, the STI is a great car and well respected with car enthusiasts. Only problem is we still have rich kids or rich momy and dadys that bought their kids this car, and all they want to do is kick everyones *** on the street with it. The car is really fast, stock and we still have manny dumb kids like the one I talked about in the first post of this thread that try to race every car they see on the street, witch dosent make them anybetter then them stupid civic ricers. I guess you can say thats what makes me frown on STI owners, but then again not the car.

Any pre-judgements people may have made of me based on that were either a) quicky dispelled or b) they miss out. More often than not it was a).

In today's society, cars, most of all, are a terrible judge of a persons 'status'. Anyone can have any car they want, it's just a matter of how much they are willing to sacrifice. My father was telling me the other day how he found out that he could lease a gallardo for like $2k a month. 2k a month for a 180k car is pretty decent and certainly you don't have to be rich to do it. Hell, I could do it when I graduate if I live in the rents basement, or some **** apartment, and eat KD every day. That's exactly what a lot of people do. Sacrifice equity to ride around in a car they can't really afford. But hey, they could pull up to a nice restaurant and people might think they are somebody. Of course, when they walk by, or open their mouths, you'll quicky see who is clawing for acceptance.
You have an amazing view on how the world should be...too bad it's not like that at all. Especially coming from Ontario, I'm suprised you're not more superficial!

Classy Car

People, we've got a classy looking and pretty high performing car. We're good on either side of the coin.

a BMW 3 series is a nice car. I used to own a 1995 325i and 2002 330i and both are fun to drive. But although both cars also have an almost 50/50 weight distribution they don't feel as nimble as the 8. The RX8 have an almost uncanny way of holding on to the tarmac like its daring to take the curve faster next time. Mazda as a company still have a ways to go to match the quality of material and customer service of BMW though.

That is exactly the reason I didn't even consider the Sti or Evo. Grocery-getter-car-looks with turbo is not exactly an atractive convination.

This reminds me on how stupid my aunt is. She's a typical old asian person, telling me how her daughters bf BMW 325i is better just because it's BMW she said my car is a Mazda how much can I really pay for one of them. I guess she didn't know my car almost cost me 40k.
Well, BMW & Mercedes charge a lot of money for very little car. Other brands (like Mazda) give more car for less money. Actually for a BMW & Mercedes, you pay about $10k extra just for the badge.

A have a lot of Asian friends, they seems to go crazy for BMW & Mercedes brands. It is like status or sign of success. Even if they have the cheapest.

I consider an RX-8 a much better car than a BMW 330Ci. And that is the reason I bought one a week ago. I can afford a $40k+ car. But the RX-8 looks so good and made me save some money. Besides, an RX-8 looks more impressive than any BMW/Mercedes of less than $50k.

We also have rich kids who's mommy and daddy buy them an rx8, and many of those kids would do same thing with the rx8 if it had the power to do so, and they are also trying to make their Rx8s faster, and decking them out to look fast and ricey. You're going to eventually see the exact same thing with RX8, you just have to open your eyes to it. I frown on both owners of each car. People are mocking cars like EVO and STI talking about looking stupid going to a restaurant and garbage. Thanks for validating my previous post that this is an image car, and many rx8 owners care what people think of them. I definitely don't recommend buying an EVO or STI because people might think less of you when going to a fancy place. God forbid a tragedy like that should happen.
