My first post..and it ain't pretty

So before I bought my 8 a few months ago, this was one of the forums I frequented. I was reading up up on it from google and this site popped up. I really like community sites, I do saltwater tanks by trade and I am pretty active on those website/forums.

Heres a couple pics so you know what I am talking about

Anyways, I have been really active on this board the past day or so because something really crappy happen the other day.

I came out to my car from class, and found this on the driver side

Worst of all the driver side door wont open..so I have to contort myself from the passenger side every time I get in it.

I called around, and went to a dent specialist, everyone seems to agree that the quater panel and the door skin need to be replaced..plus the hinges.

If I go through my insurance it will end up costing me 1400$ (500$ deductible + 900$ of increased rates over three years) So Im not sure if I want to pay for it myself to save it from going on my insurance or just take the hit

I've heard varying opinions that say it will cost anywhere from 1000$ to 2500$

Well, just wanted to make my introduction and become more active in this site as the car gets fixed.

Thats ridiculous. People are ******* stupid. Check with your school to see if there was any security cameras around. Most of the time school parking lots are loaded with them. My friend came out once and found his front bumper smashed in. Security footage found the culprit. This bitch should have been charged with leaving the scene of an accident but instead didn't get anything and only paid the minimum for the damages. Good luck... definitely check with your school administration.

Michael,

Welcome to the forum! OUCH, sorry to see those pictures, that's pretty rough.
1) are you certain your rates are going to go up? This was a non-moving incident, sometimes insurance companies are a bit more leniant (sp?) on those.

2) I would say drive around and get a few estimates. You can usually find shops who will give you a written estimate for free

Unfortunately I do agree though, it looks like those panels will indeed need to be replaced unless you can find a REALLY REALLY good dent removal guy.

If in fact, your insurance is going to go up, then you simply need to ask youself: Do I (can I) part with $1400 right now or am I better off spreading out the loss over 3 years via my insurance.
Even though you might have the available funds, that's not always the best route to go but only you know your finances well enough

I was thinking about it, and why should you get punished with increased rates? The accident was in no way your fault. You weren't even in your car! That's criminal.

Man, that sucks. I would cry for sure. Zerotide has a great idea, to check the security cameras. Other than that, I'm no help, but just wanted to say welcome, sorry for that awful luck, and NICE TANKS! I used to keep salts too, they're awesome.

Did you leave your car unlocked? That dent was created from a door being forced backwards.

Are you sure you're not just promoting your aquariums??

Besides.....that looks MORE like the Black Mustang you show as being your car in your MySpace site.....

Never saw the vent looking like that on an 8.

yeah I didnt want to mention it, but some of the damage was caused by me, after I saw it I tried to open it, and it would only go so far, so I kinda forced my way through it...well it thats when it started really kinking up...after I got it pretty much all the way open, I couldnt really close it...so I was sitting there thinking well I can either cause more damage by closing it, but at least I could close the door, or have it towed...

I think in retrospect I should have towed it...because closing it put the dents in the quarter panel...

I dunno..when crap like this happens its not like a well thought out plan

when metal starts hitting metal you stop what you are doing. lol.

i dont see why your insurance would jack your rates up $900/3years. unless you damaged it yourself, which you did. you could argue that it would have had to be replaced anyway, so the damage you caused was inconsequential. anyway, there are a few black parts cars around on these forums. im pretty sure you could have your car fixed for less than $1400. shipping might be a problem if you arent close.

You sir deserve a grade-A bitch slap, and I am just the one to administer it.

Here this man is pouring out his heart about his car being damaged, obviously having a bad day/week, and you come here spouting off some BS about the car not being an 8 (any 8 owner can clearly see that it is even in the closeups) and him spamming his aquarium setups when he never even posted any links or business information!

This post made me want to crawl into fetal position - right after I bash their skull in with a sledge hammer! DAMN if you find who did that to your car, show no mercy.

Or you can do some sort of SAW VI thing with your aquariums, like make them gouge their eyes out with fish hooks, and then drop a huge *** anchor on them while they're inside the tank drowning. If they can get out, they can live. Otherwise, it's what they get for showing people's property no respect.

vote^^ for president

any ways, um check with the school and see if you can talk to the head of security. and get your self to the security room with all the cameras. tell them the time day and area of the parking lot and they should have footage of it. and that is more than enough to justify that it was not your fault and that insurance, or the other party should pay for it.

give him a break...he did call me out a little bit, I didn't want to admit that some of it was self incurred..

but it was sort of heat of the moment, and I thought...well it already f'ed anyways so might as well just do what i gotta do...but hindsight is 20/20 and I probably shouldn't have touched it...

and I dont own a Saltwater aquarium business...just a hobbyist...

Gotta get a kit like me! Have you ever seen a chevy with kit kit like me? Buttafly doos...

I've seen the butterflies, they look ok. Kind of gangsta-ish though, I mean obviously the car don't come like that so people won't assume "omg wow thats badass", if it was badass wouldn't the mercedes, bentleys, maseratis have that stock? lol
