Ghanaboy.......Take a road trip. SOON. There were only 1500 SHINKA's produced in '06. It was a limited Special Edition. The suspension difference is enough to warrant it, no offense guys, but there is a difference, and that alone is worth a couple of grand probably. My advise....First off call Mazda North American Operations and get them to fax you a copy of the records they have on your VIN.......Go to a local Mazda dealer and get him to "verify" the suspension on your car......THEN Go back to the dealer the day you KNOW that same sales man is there, and ask him to explain to you the difference in "your" SHINKA suspension and the regular suspension on an RX8.....There is NO getting around it then. Oh and stop by a Lawyer's office, and pick up a few business cards, and hand him one....and then ASK to see the GM.... My friend.......if that salesman said the B-Pillars were removed he KNEW what he was doing. SHINKA's have a higher resale value...and he knew it..Hand the second Lawyer's card to the GM and COPIES of the invoice from the other dealership, the VIN # Info....and DEMAND NICELY your money back......or demand AGAIN NICELY that they find you what they sold you...and an apology in writing, that sales guys job, and if you laid any money down, that refunded to you as well....In this day of technology, there is NOreason for this type of mistake except for pure crookedness. Don't let your pride stand in the way of getting this done, because I guarantee you that salesman is laughing all the way to the bank with the commission he made on the sale of your car. I'm being blunt, I know but do it.....If you don't get anything else but the damn satisfaction of knowing that you handed this guy his ***, and some money back.....then it's worth it....use tact, and be a gentleman but you do have the upper hand in this case...

I agree 100% with RDDRAGONESS and REVVITTUP. You could've had a brand new 07 for the price you paid. I'm not trying to and insult to injury but I paid A LOT less for my 06 Shinka BRAND NEW! I just want you to understand the gravity of the situation.

Hello all, I called the salesman and he apologized about the error. He said I should call the General Manager because as a salesman there's not much he can do after the vehicle is sold. I just left a message on the GM's answering machine for him to call me back.

I'm thinking of asking for $2500 back so the final price will be $24,500. Is that a fair price or should I ask for more back? if the GM won't do that, then I'll tell him that selling me a car and telling me that it's a Shinka when it's not is fraud, and that I will contact a lawyer next.

Thanks for your help guys.

Calling on the phone is roughly 10% as effective as showing up. You're not too likely of getting on the phone with the GM, but in person it's a pretty good chance.

I concure with everything writtin above. It really is sad that this happens, but that is most definetly not a shinka and you paid too much. Shinka's can be had for around $25,000 brand new off the lot about 6 months ago, so I'd talk to the dealer, its definetely in your best interest.

ALL 2005's were Black Cherry Mica

ALL Copper Red '06's were shinkas(some shinkas in standard color like my galaxy grey)

Windshield, front windows, and side mirrors impregnated/coated with a water shedding compound... aka permanent RainX

Foam filled cross members(i never noticed a difference between them, but i have met a few people who noticed it right away, 2 of them before they knew it was a shinka)

14mm dampers

wheel color( to me it seems to have more of a black chrome color)

Alcantera and leather seats... vs. 1 or 2 tone leather

headlight and taillight silver areas are shinier

all rings and silver dials are shinier

-- the stitching color i never noticed a difference on... maybe in 05 it was, but newer models i have seen stitched like mine.

-- and FWIW i got my 06 GG Shinka for 31K brand new, total including all the little stuff like ext. warrantee, tinting, rust/corrosion protection, scotchguard, clearcoat sealer, etc etc etc, and thats the FULL amount of my load including interest that will have been paid(at normal payments) when the loan is complete

also, rumor is, the Shinka is actually a MazdaSpeed 8 with all the MS badging replaced with the word "Shinka", so that means it has 250WHP!!!

Do you have bigger pictures? I can't tell whether the wheels are OEM. It might just be because of the angles, but they look different to me.

it would be near impossible to tell from a picture of any quality/size. with my car parked directly beside my roomates, it is difficult to tell the difference if both our wheels are only mildy dirty. take into account lighting and all the weird things cameras can do... and the only way you'd be able to tell that slight shade difference is if you had VERY good pictures of Shinka & standard wheels, both spotless, side by side.

Sorry bro, what I meant was that it kind of looks like a slightly different design to the OEM wheels, regardless of being in standard or Shinka finish.

You know how the spokes are slightly angled inwards like fan blades on the OEM wheels? Well in the pictures, to me, the spokes look like they're flush with the wheel face.

Here are some pictures of my Shinka, (BB 400/1500) so you get an idea of what it's supposed to look like, I paid $18,300 for it:

I just talked to the General manager. He said I should give him a list of the mods that I want and he'll have them taken care for me. So that's good. My budget is between $2000 and $3000.

I want to have something done with the built-in navigation LCD screen. Maybe a TV tuner? I don't use it much because I have my own Tom-Tom GPS which I am used to. At the same time I want to integrate my iphone into the car so I can listen to music and play videos from it and also use bluetooth.

I was also thinking of a cold air intake system, but it seems from what I'm reading that it gives a gain of 1-2hp and the main difference is a deeper sound. So I'm not too sure about that.

Nicely negotiated ghanaboy!

I would stick to mechanical items for dealer upgrade (intake, exhaust, flyweel, etc.). As they'll be doing it for their cost, you should be able to get quite a few goodies for the manager's cited budget and they should be well equipped to upgrade mechanical properly.

There are plenty of good electronics fabricators in your area and you'd be better served with them for the other items you mention.

Well the dealer is in close to Phoenix, AZ and I'm in Los Angeles so I'll be going through a third party anyways.

Good job. I knew that if yoiu talked with the right person you would get retribution.

It sounds liek an IPOD kit is tops of your list, besides that I'd search the forum, read opinions and pick some good stuff. For that budget you could probably also get Intake, exhaust, and suspension.

I think they are only going to compensate you for Mazda upgrades.

In that case get Mazda Speed suspension and exhaust.

Those aren't even OEM wheels, let alone Shinka wheels.

GBoy you are so stupid or maybe your mom dropped you on your head when you were young.
No amount of mods/money will make that car into a SHINKA.
Just get your monies back and start over but then again you dont get it so you will be GOT, ie taken advantage of, no matter what you do.

1. Seats, wrong ones
2. wheels, wrong ones
3. No Shinka pillars
4. Rear tail lights not shinka
5. you know the rest/ underneath etc

I would just take my monies back or sue. You have a good case but then again you were dropped as a baby

I paid $19,750 for my copper red 06 Shinka this past October.

Either way, watch the price drop, ie depreciation as soon as 6-8 months pass by or by the time you try to sell it/trade it in.

Either way...Good Luck and
Welcome to the club.

Those are chrome wheels, not the OEM wheels. Anyways the dealer is paying for the Mazdaspeed Cold Air Intake, Dual Sport Exhaust and Mazdaspeed front bumper. So I'm paying about $24000 for the car. Oh well I guess I could have gotten a better deal on my original price. But thats ok I'm happy with the car.

But thats ok I'm happy with the car.[/QUOTE]

Those are the MAGIC words. As long as your ok with the deal it does not matter what I think/say or what anyone else thinks/says.
You are the one who will drive it . Every time you sit in your car if you feel good about your deal then all the rest does not matter.
Now time to start enjoying the car
Enoy!!

Then make sure all TSBs are done.
esp the emissions one.
check the sun visors. for breakage
check the rear tail lights ..for water condensation
all of the above done at dealer at no cost, ie warranty covered.

Guess you can call Mazda customer service for info of what TSBs have been done or even the dealer should be able to tell you. Need cars VIN
1-800-222-5500
While you are making the call might as well tell them to change the car into your name, ie register it with Mazda.
Also nicely ask for some FREE touch up paint.

The dealer will do what he can to keep you in that car, while appeasing your distaste. You should be able to get $1k worth of free service, parts, accessories, something. From the sounds of it, that would be enough to make you happier with the transaction,a dn that is what they will be looking for. If they are not being too helpful, leave the keys with the manager, and tell them to expect a call form your lawyer. They will budge then.
My poiint is, you like the car, and were happy with the price. You are entitled to something, so you might as well get something. Be rational and calm, and try and explain that you'd hate to tarnish their image, when in reality it was just someone being confused. You'd far prefer to be able to explain their genrousity in helping you. These ar ethe kind of conversations that work to get your way. Going in screaming and yelling and visually upset will not.
Agreed this is the best option...although he may be happy with the car now, in time I can guarantee he will have second thoughts and ponder on the Shinka.

Knowing car dealers they can be a pretty unscrupulous lot, and I fear the worst for this young fellow.

It might be worth his while to take another person with him who had had experience with car salesman, and if that fails take it a step further with the Department of Fair Trading/consumer affairs.

All too often we hear stories of misrepresentation in the car industry and unless they are taken on, they continue to do it to others....good luck.
