Cool My 8 just turned off today for no reason =(

I was in the turning lane to get on the onramp and I revved my engine up a lil bit [just to hear its beauty] and stopped to turn. After a few moments waiting for the light I noticed my RPMs were dead zero. I didnt hear it shut off b/c the cd player was on, and it didnt stall or I definitely would have noticed that "look what I can do" jolt forward. [the car was in neutral] it started right up no problem and when I revved I didnt hit the limiter [didnt beep] but it was still strange.

wtf ? this happened to any of you before ?

only time my car has turned off was when I ran out of gas. It was sudden and I knew I was low... I managed to roll right up to a gas station and put in more fuel. Since then I've had a deep respect for the fuel needle. When it dips under the empty marker, I know I *NEED* to refuel.

Maybe you snapped the key back while you stopped without noticing?

I was thinking bad alternator until he mentioned the radio was still on. I personally think it was just a stall.

You just suffered a sputter that led to it stalling out. Normally this happens on older cars, but it was probably just a one time thing from bad gas or something. My Rx8 did that to me once after I was revving it pretty high. As the engine was coming down to idle ending speed, it hit below 600rpms and just stalled out. I was concerned at first, but it never happened again so I got over it. Unlike you, I was watching the cluster and saw it happen. Don't worry about it. If it starts happening on a more fequent basis, then you need to take it in.

While mine has never actually stalled, I have noticed that if I rev the engine a little, it will occasionally drop the RPMs down to very low levels when it comes back down. I have found that this primarily happens when the engine is not warmed completely. I think it may have something to do with how rich the ECU runs in these cars.

You sure your engine computer isn't running Windows XP? That would certainly explain it.

something in the gas could have clogged the fuel injector, but that wouldn't explain it starting up again.

Sometimes when the gas stations refuel, some of the sediment in the bottom of the tanks gets stirred up and you get some bad gas, happened to my jeep once, twas terrible.
