Moving to Japan...buy an RX8 here or there...?
I'll be moving to Japan for three years and have decided we (the wife and I) want an RX-8 for the long haul, to fix up and what not.
Question:
Should we just buy a new one here and have it shipped (free in the military).
Or should we get one there, and three years down the road go through the hassels of getting it into the states....
What would you guys do...?

get it there you wont have to do any thing other than make sure you change small **** and you should have no problem geting it here cuz its already sold here and has all the certifications both cars are the same excipte the color of some light bulbs and may be the glass. and if your smart you buy a relatively cheap american car (camero trans am any large chevy suv you know stuff they cant buy over there easily but not a mustang they have those over there) than sell it and use it to pay for a used rx8 or rx7 (the 7 will be harder to get over here

Thanks ! That's exactly what I wanted to hear...now I just have to research the specifics....
Yeah even in the military, you are going to have a hell of a time trying to bring it back to the states when you come back. The best option unfortunately would be to buy it here and bring it over and bring it back.
well if your buying a new car and dont already have a fully modded 8. I'd buy a car in japan (skyline/silvia/fd/G etc.) but if your set on getting an 8, i'd get it here due to dmv crap.

and as far as rhd goes its not ileagal thats just a come misconception. also to deal with the dmv just ask for the form to register the car along with a title tranfer/tranlation form the dmv does not care what you drive customs does and there the ones you will pay out the *** though
It's a real pain, dangerous really, to drive a car with a steering wheel on the wrong side of the car. EPA and safety requirements have restricted imports of non-compliant cars for decades (has nothing to do with Obama).
