CA Moving to Japan...buy an RX8 here or there...?

I'll be moving to Japan for three years and have decided we (the wife and I) want an RX-8 for the long haul, to fix up and what not.

Question:

Should we just buy a new one here and have it shipped (free in the military).

Or should we get one there, and three years down the road go through the hassels of getting it into the states....
What would you guys do...?

The Military will pay both ways...

They will ship my American car there and back...

They will also ship a JDM car that I purchased there....

Is there any other differences besides the RHD...?

If you plan on keeping the car after the three years and use it in the US afterwards, then get one here. Especially since shipping it won't cost you anything.

get it there you wont have to do any thing other than make sure you change small **** and you should have no problem geting it here cuz its already sold here and has all the certifications both cars are the same excipte the color of some light bulbs and may be the glass. and if your smart you buy a relatively cheap american car (camero trans am any large chevy suv you know stuff they cant buy over there easily but not a mustang they have those over there) than sell it and use it to pay for a used rx8 or rx7 (the 7 will be harder to get over here

Aren't they very expensive there? If not get one there, bring it back, and then when you sell it at least you won't get raped on resale like the rest of us.

Well, if using a RHD car here doesn't bother you... I know I wouldn't like that.
But using a LHD car in Japan for three years would not be my thing either.

Get it here. RHD would be nice for a bit, but when it comes time to bring it back home, be prepared to deal with a whole bunch of DMV BS trying to get that car registered.

Yeah even in the military, you are going to have a hell of a time trying to bring it back to the states when you come back. The best option unfortunately would be to buy it here and bring it over and bring it back.

well if your buying a new car and dont already have a fully modded 8. I'd buy a car in japan (skyline/silvia/fd/G etc.) but if your set on getting an 8, i'd get it here due to dmv crap.

although RHD is sick

no the sky line is not able to be imported current adminas(obama hates imports)titiaon has made it dam near impossiable enless you buy five noe for each crash test the last one to drive. and only the 2 passanger rx7 up to 96 is allowed to be imported due to being the only ones with crash test data.
and as far as rhd goes its not ileagal thats just a come misconception. also to deal with the dmv just ask for the form to register the car along with a title tranfer/tranlation form the dmv does not care what you drive customs does and there the ones you will pay out the *** though

It's a real pain, dangerous really, to drive a car with a steering wheel on the wrong side of the car. EPA and safety requirements have restricted imports of non-compliant cars for decades (has nothing to do with Obama).
