Question Motor Swap?

Hello people, I have a question thats been bugging me today.. Um can you put a 20b or 13b(turbo) in a rx8? Iam getting a rx8(automatic) very soon but me being a previous owner of a couple of bmw's I do not have any knowledge on mazda tuning. This is actually a present for my younger brother and he is not willing to learn stick, but anyways what will I need to do if the motor is compatible. Replace motor mounts?Wiring Harnesses? Fuel Management? ECU?uhh:

Oh and What is the engine code for the rx8???

13BMSP.

All the above swaps have been done and they can get expensive when done properly. Be careful if your younger brother's not ready for the big horses. Train him well.

That's my 2 cents.

Paul.

I think it will be a lot easier and *cheaper* to force your brother to learn to drive a stick.

Tell your younger brother that he either go learn drive a stick, or you will get him a barbie doll as present.

if you are willing to spend $20k on an engine swap for a little brother, you might as well do a transmission swap too.

put a sequential transmission in there. automated manual.

with the price you'd end up paying you might as well buy him an elise, or an M3, or a used boxster... or a vette...

Yeah I think vette would work

ppl that don't want to learn stick make baby jesus cry

thats true, if you plan on swapping out the engine from day one you might as well get another car. e46 m3 or a c5 vette for sure.

yes, the engine swaps are possible and as Paul mentioned, they have been done.

Frankly: not worth the money for most people. A 20b swap will START at somewhere around $20,000.

Here's my absolute honest advice: guy a manual RX-8, teach your brother how to drive it as this car is VERY forgiving to new drivers and THEN turbocharge it. There are some GREAT turbo kits out there right now

since your brother is too lazy to learn stick and you're too lazy to search for the dozens of threads on motor swaps.... i'm going to go with... buy him a wrx. Neither of you have the brain power or time it will take to do a good swap.
