Moonroof and Headroom

After testdrive I was concerned about headroom, but now I see in the brochure that the non-moonroof version has 1 1/2 inches more headroom than the moonroof-equipped car I tested. Cool.

2 questions:

1 - is it possible to get a package such as Grand Touring, but NOT have a moon-roof? I'd hate to have to choose between 1 or the other. Haven't gotten to ordering phase yet.

2 - How many of you have forgone the moonroof due to headroom considerations?

Thanks!

Where are you? In Canada, the GT package doesn't include the moonroof - it's one of only two factory options (the other is NAV). My Ti Gray GT doesn't have the moonroof, but I've got the full black/tan leather interior.

Regards,
Gordon

In the US, this is not possible.

I did. Had to order mine with only the sport package, because I'm 6' 6" tall, and I tested that I fit in the car if it doesn't have a sunroof, but not if it has. Otherwise I'd have gone with the GT package. Stupid Mazda... why can't they offer the sunroof in the US as a stand-alone option (just like the nav)...

I'm 6'5" and I'm getting the sunroof. Doesn't seem to be a real problem for me.

headroom

Yep, move the seat a little closer to the wheel and recline the back a bit more. Make sure the seat is all the way down in back.

Well, I'm sure I'd barely fit if I would adjust my driving position along the lines mentioned - but why should I make sacrifices if that is not a convenient setup? The car is for me, not the other way around.
Bottom line is - Mazda made a gross mistake when they did not offer the same option packaging like it is in Canada or Europe (where it is seemingly the same like in Canada). I would have happily paid for all the other options included in the GT package - but as it is now, I have to forgo all that just because of the dumb mandatory sunroof.
I'm sure not the only one with the same problem.

Yeah. I understand there are probably certain economies inherent in bundling the options but it doesn't make sense to lock a whole group of people out of the high-end extras based not on their preferences but on their stature; which is in effect what they're doing. At 5'10" I can probably make due even though I have a long torso; especially once I dial in the seating position. It's also a loss if you have to lean the seat so far back for headroom as to reduce the car to a 3-seater.

My head wasn't rubbing during the test drive but I could feel it tickling the hairs on my head and my hair is very short - no more than 1/4". I don't relish the prospect of hitting my head on the roof when running over even a moderate bump. Will have to spend more time in the cockpit to make my decision I really do want the leather and the other goodies. Moonroof is nice but I could easily live without it.

I'm 6' with an average leg/torso ratio and I haven't had any trouble with headroom. I haven't had to adjust the seat in any odd ways to get a comfortable fit that still leaves plenty of room to spare.

I still want to get an aftermarket moonroof put on mine but I want it to be the exactsame type of moonroof as the one all the Rx8s with moonroofs have. I amafraid though that since it would be aftermarket thatit may come out bad and leak since the roof wasnt manufactured with itby machine. If it would cost me less than 2000dollars Id want to do it. I just dont know where to go for it or how I could get it tocome out so its the exact same as all your Rx8s with moonroofs!
