Unhappy A moment of silence...

So I found out today that my son, "Reese" is going to be taken from me this week. Apparently there was a problem with his title and after some investigation, the car is deemed "unsellable" and the DMV refuses to register it. Long story short, I'll be taking him for his last ride soon.

We wish you the best Reese, may you redline often in rotary heaven.

I started to read the thread, got a little sad...then learned it was the car and everything made sense.

Why is it unsellable?

Wow, sorry to hear but how can they do that? I bet it's just for their clunker for cash crap. Regardless of title you paid for it so they should find some way to remedy and make it legal I would think

Hope you find something in place of Reese in due time.

My car is my kid, since my wife is unable to bear children. So to me, it's heartbreaking.

Apparently the title was doctored at some point, the dealership's trying to find out the details but after it was doctored, it was sold to the auction, then to my dealer, then to me. When they registered the car with the DMV, all kinds of red-flags came up. They started working on the paper-trail and apparently something happened prior that caused it to be marked unsellable, then the owner doctored the title and removed it, then sold it to the auction. The auction didn't do a proper check and missed the mistakes on the title. Now I'm in a car that I can't get a tag for and that I can't drive.

They offered to put me in a grey one with more miles, but it's a sport not a GT, has NONE of the options I want other then a 6-speed....so now I'm in a pickle. I can take the other car...or I can take my money back. But I love my 8... nothing can replace him.. it breaks my heart to lose him.

Thanks. I've had the car three weeks, I was supposed to go get my tag next week, but the DMV won't issue me one. I'm not sure exactly what happened...neither is my dealer, but the auction's buying the car back from the dealer, and my finance company is willing to transfer my loan to the other 8 on the lot.. but I really don't like it. I don't have great credit though, so I'm probably going to buy it and use it to gain credit and get one I really want down the road. We'll see.

I have that option, or I could hop into the other 8 on the lot. My credit isn't great and the dealership pulled some stings to get me financed so I don't know if I could pull it off a second time. We're probably going to go with the grey one.

That second one better be much cheaper... not only is it not a GT (no options), it's got more miles. Argue the dealer down a bit more on that price, transfer your finance over, and use it to boost your credit and possibly as a trade-in in the near future for the RX-8 with the options you wanted.

That's the best route that I can imagine for you at this point.

Strip it of anything you can that isn't OEM and sell it to get some of your invested money out of it. Or just do a major OEM part out then claim someone stripped it down the night before...........

I call dibs on the driver side leather seat.....

I agree with Jin...push for a price reduction. Otherwise you'll be the victim of what amounts to a scam: pay the price for one car, and wind up getting a different one of lesser value. Did both cars have asking prices marked on them? That'll tell you the difference you should get back.

Doctored title could mean that the car was stolen...in which case there will be further buy-backs after the auction gets it back. Or it could be rebuilt from a total wreck, in which case you really wouldn't want that one.

Hope things work out.

Ken

If this is a reputable dealer you should be able to do a little research to find a similar car to the one THEY mistakenly sold to you to have them do a dealer trade for. There is no reason you should be limited to the cars that are in only their stock. Stick to your guns and get what you paid for. Just my .02. F'n dealers, what can you do.
