Shock and Awe
I just left there a few weeks ago, I'm at Bragg now. Logan Gym is still open, but everything else is gone. They are actually building a housing area where the old training site was located, but if you went there right now, all you would see is the gym.

I used to see 1 military rx8 every month. This week, I saw an average 1 per day. Pretty ridiculous, but not as bad as the 3 350z I saw driving, 2 within the same lane and 1 on the opposite lane within the same intersection on the same base.

Shipping POV versus DIY
Has anyone shipped their POV within CONUS before?
I have changed duty location states 4 times in 3 years, and will have to move again but this time I am going across the country. In 2 years of ownership I've done 7000 miles + 1500 miles self PCS drive. To keep low miles, I do not want to PCS drive again, but if POV shipping is so inconvenient I may have to.
Any opinions?

I have never shippped within CONUS before; but you get payed pretty good money for doing a DIY move. Where are PCSing to? The only shipping ports as far as I know are LA, Seattle, St. Louis, Dallas, and NYC; so unless your near a major city, you might be SOL.

Thats a good idea, you might take a hit with the rent fee and milage fee, but at what cost do you want to pay for your Rx-8?
Are you still in deployed Kane? When you get back, if your not already, we should organize a drive, so what the guys on IRX Hawaii are up to.

BAD GUY: Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS)
We'd chosen DAS for a few reasons:
- their price was in the mid-range
- they had the closest terminal to both drop-off and pick-up
- they were recommended by eBay (my wife is an eBay author so an eBay recommendation, we thought, would be a good thing)
If you ship, I'd do your homework on transports.com and if I were to do it again, I'd probably pay for the extra insurance. USAA is covering it, I should have my 8 back in a week or so, but if I'd purchased the extra insurance I get the feeling that it may not have been damaged in the first place.
Just my .02
DAS is the recommended automobile shipper by eBay. I'm sure it is because they are getting a kickback.
I moved from Pensacola, Fl to the Seattle, WA area.
Usually, I wouldn't complain that something gets delivered ahead of time, but in this case we were driving across the country and taking a vacation at the same time in my wife's Matrix. The car arrived in Lakewood, WA (vice Lynwood where we thought it would be) 10 days early, causing us to shorten our vacation time, or pay a storage fee each day. They give you five free days, but we'd been planning on using those and picking up the car on the 30th or so.
Somewhere en route, either loading my car, or on/off loading other cars, the shipper dropped a ramp (see pictures below) on the roof just above the rear windscreen. It damaged the roof, the plastic rail and the top of the quarter panel. The pressure of the ramp on the roof blew out the glass, showering it all over the interior (and my kid's car seat). They also put heavy curb rash on all of my wheels.
Now, I'm not entirely certain, but this all could have been an intentional "F***you" for not having paid the extra liability insurance. I figure they will mess with 1/6 people's cars and get out of it for $150, and that person will run around screaming "make sure you buy the extra insurance".
My insurance is covering it, and I'm sure that they'll go after DAS for the damages. These are the images they sent me, so sorry for the quality.
The receiving garage on the other end tried to not-so-subtly imply that I should use their facility to repair the damage... yeah, sure buddy, I'll get right on that.
If I'd checked transports.com, I'd have realized that they have a very low rating. Lots of people with major complaints against DAS.

What fun it must be for you to drive H-Tree everyday! I miss making the dashed white line in the tunnel a solid white line, if ya know what I mean...
