is it me or did i just get screwed?

just got my screen set today from racing beat. i didn't mind shelling out $100 for the screen set but the shipping price hit me like a freight truck... for something that doesn't weigh too much and even came from the west coast shipped to hawaii to cost me 50 bucks???!!!

i think something went wrong here... i called them earlier today and they told me i might have been overcharged and came out to 8 bucks to be refunded. i thought, oh well... they said the box size and UPS plus weight came about to $40 and should be right now. got home from work and saw the box thinking-this is it? it's got USPS(not UPS) all over it and even got a sticker saying $18.55! WTF??!!!

PS - i hated the fact they never gave shipping options for you and even change shipping address...

If the box says $18 - you got screwed.

Thank god Racing Beat is only 5 miles away from me, Autobacs' right down the street, MazdaTrix is only 30 miles, buncha rotary tuners, performance parts manufacturers, and all the major car headquarters are in my area.

I ordered some decals last week from a place and they charged $2.50 "shipping" (for 3 decals the size of a postage stamp) and I thought WTF!? are they radioactive and come in a lead lined box or what?

Sure enough they came in a 1st class envelope (w/$.41 stamp) So I got overcharged like what 6 times their cost (not including the cost of the #10 envelope). At least you only got charged ~2X their cost but the amount you got screwed suxs.

It's a capitalist conspiracy!

This is NOT exclusive to only RB. If you have any experience w/ Ebay at all, you see this BS all the time. A great price on the product and then you see some ungodly shipping amount. Its all BS. No matter what you are sending them a single amount, from that THEY are the ones who decide what shipping method will be used. Its just a marketing ploy to fake you into thinking you got a deal.

I work for a freight forwarding company and we are subcontracted shipments from DHL, UPS, ect. all the time. You pay for 2-3 day air through UPS, they subcontract it to us, we actually DRIVE it to destination (due to being 24/7 linehaul) for much cheaper (they are sending bulk orders or course).

Is all about the benjamins! Beware

================
I say> In Ebay its different.

1. Seller pays ebay depending on amount item
sells for. Seller lowers item price, ups s/h price. Seller makes more cause
pays ebay less commission

2. Seller lowers item price. Protection is not in force. Item price
has to be X, I think its $25 but not sure. Seller can screw you and ebay
can't do anything about it. Has been posted here before

well raizen, it seems that you've got a good case here to further pursue in court. i'm a student in a respectable law school so just PM me and i'll fly over there and represent you in court for a good price! i'm sure we can come to a very good settlement and get you a fair amount of money from this predicament

you always see the shipping on ebay before you commit to but, so if you get screwed on shipping it's a matter of self love rather then sodomy.

nonsese, if you receive a package on your doorstep and have to face the unpleasant surprise of an outrageous shipping bill that so many have become victim too, you have every right to bring it to court and get every little penny that you can from this case. so then after that, you can buy some aftermarket parts for your rx-8 with that money.

I am not saying he was not potentially screwed - I just long for the days of just having the confrontation man to man - vs. jumping into court and its associated costs as the first reaction.

oh believe me,
if society would allow us to settle differences "man to man" i would be more than happy to do that. just bring the guy behind the liquor store or into my basement and just settle our differences like that. it would be easy, quick, and effective if you were the winner. unfortunately, this is just another area where Bush has failed us in and we are forced to go to court. court being difficult, slow, and corrupted.
but this is how life is :/

and I live in PR so all the rotary tuners are trapped inside a 100x35 mile island!

I win!

You should have checked with Racing Beat before placing your order.

That's kind of your responsibility as a consumer. Know what you're going to pay upfront. OUT THE DOOR cost. If that changes, then you have something to complain about.

Sucks shipping costs are high, but lots of company charge your more for shipping. I remember reading that AMAZON makes money off of shipping all the time.

that was part of the problem too. the way they accepted orders online didn't include shipping options and i assumed they'd contact customers to confirm orders and then arrange the shipping details.

and for an update: IT'S BEEN FIXED PEOPLE!! i'll be back for the details.

details

ok, so the shipping charge has been fixed and they're giving me back $20 more in addition to the previous $8 that they already did. and i think i've stumbled onto something that might have been going on for awhile that people have just ignored or stopped pursuing.

i sent them an e-mail last night containing my rant on my first post above. i received an immediate response this morning in the form of a phone call. apparently, the way they do it is they charge you immediately according to calculations on the USPS website. they pack it and send it to the postal office. he said the guy that handed the package got lazy and didn't check the actual shipping and handling they were charged which was way less than what they calculated. it was actually the $18.55 sticker that was on the package. he apologized and said he would refund me the rest on my card.

i was happy with their response time since i forgot to include in my email my phone number and the order number. i saw his email asking for the details hours after the phone call meaning he searched their records and was sincere enough to resolve it as early as they can.

the sad thing is, these online stores may have been charging customers on automatic calculators provided without ever looking at the actual charge they get from USPS, UPS or FEDEX. you may have been overcharged and you didn't know. i'm kinda thinking now that it's a pretty underhanded way of getting more money from the customers if these customers don't complain or ask questions...i hope not...

PS - this is off-topic but i just want to share that despite the heavy rains on my way to work, someone waved back at me! i saw a fellow wb 8 owner on the highway exit to my far right. i was waiting for him to catch up to me so i can try to wave. to my surprise, he was looking my way too and we shaka'd (hawaiian wave) to each other at the same time lol. that made my morning... at last, i've seen one friendly 8 owner on the road at least.
