Question Buying Auction RX-8 2004. Warranty Questions

Hi, I'm planning to buy my first Mazada and first Wankel for the first time. I have a '91 240SX and getting this next car for warranty and insurance coverage.
I know 2004-2006 RX-8 are on recall for engine and ball-joint replacement along with brake issues.
Will I be still under Mazada warranty for buying an auction car? My friends at the dealer are willing to get me one at cost after Coggin Nissan Atlantic on Jacksonville tried to rip me off by selling a 2004 for $25K with their warranty.

I want to get a 2004 that already have the engine replaced or at least under warranty to replace the engine. How do I know if the engine has been replaced? If not yet, which ones are still under Mazada warranty?
If I want to use the Mazada warranty, how can I get started and how much will it cost me on my pocket?

Thanks

Title search (carfax) will tell you what recalls have been done, as well as any other warranty work. Get the VIN & check - and it all depends on the mileage if there are no major problems in a carfax report.

A very small percentage of people that went in for the recall actaully had the engines replaced. Mine was fine, they checked it, reflashed the ECU and sent me on my way (plugs and coil packs were still good). I believe an auction car should still qualify for manufactuers warranty provided it's under the time and mileage limits.

The brake issue was just some squeeling which isn't a big deal, not sure about the ball-joint replacement. You can have a dealer pull the service history on the car with the VIN or call Mazda customer service to see what work has been done on it.

I called Mazada help support at 1-800-222-5500 and the guy there told me all the dealer service done to the car and what dates they were done on. It still has warranty till July 2008 and 60K miles.
Should I get an extended warranty till 100K 3 years? What do they run around?
