I'm sure the new 3 is faster. Looks like a great car—something that'll give the GTI a run for its money. But… what's your point?

Mazda has always stood mostly for innovative design, engineering, and smarter thinking. So it's important that their flagship "halo" car be their most innovative car—whether it's their fastest car or not isn't terribly important. Most people who buy an 8—and keep it—didn't shop for a car asking "which car is the fastest?" (If they had they would've bought something else.)

Maybe they need to drop the MS3 engine into the 8.

Considering it's pushing between 220-240+whp and 260 -270 wheel torque (what the MS6 is putting out only much lighter), and doesn't weigh that much more it's gonna be a lot faster then the RX8. It's also gonna be a faster then plenty of other cars. RX8 owners shouldn't let that bother them though. Hell, that Speed 3 is gonna be faster then both my cars (MS6 and S2000, but that doesn't bother me one single bit.) You still gotta love what Mazda has brought to the table. This is like an Srt-4, only it's a much better, high quality machine like all Mazdas are.

You must not know how to drive your S2000 then, I know the MS3 won't be faster than 5.5 0-60 in stock trim even with the gear dependent boost feature. Also the S will still spank it around a road course and probably run a faster e.t. but not trap speed in the 1/4.

so are some grocery getters like v6 version of altimas and camrys (now packing 268hp), best way to enjoy a car is to like it for what it is instead of worrying about whats faster an whats not

Ok, stop with the defensiveness, and don't bring up my driving skills, because you don't know me. You're one dimensional magazine racing this car. I'm talking overall straight line performance. You're arguing driver vs driver, not car vs car objectively. No need to get defensive and defend a car, nor question my driving ability, because it only stirs up trouble, it serves no valid purpose, and it's flat out RUDE.

If you wanna try one from a roll in your S2000, you go right ahead. It's gonna take you out. Why does that bother you, and why do you need to defend your car, when we all know straight line speed doesn't define a car.?

I had just posted about this in the lounge how others react to objective comparisons, and get defensive. Some things never change.

"grocerygetters" as an automotive insult simply doesn't make any sense. I get groceries in my RX8 OFTEN. Who CARES??

Geesh.

on to the MS3 - IF it were AWD I'd love it. As is, I can't take it seriously - besides, I want a sports car, not a fast wagon.

Isnt the 8 slower then every other production car at this time?
Thats what all these repetitive threads seem to be about.
RX8 slower then the speed6, speed3, Nissan, Ford, Subaru,....

Its the same thing as: MPG Sucks! Selling car.

Yeah, they really should of made the MS3 from the coupe version. I never understood why Manufacturers insist on suping up the ugly wagons...

Exactly. It's Mazda's fastest car, but not their best car. This is why the Mazda lineup is fabulous IMO. You have a wide variety of cars that suit the needs of various types of enthusiasts and typical car buyers alike. The RX8 brings it all together to show what IMO is a great variety of cars built for a purpose and to fit the needs of different personalities. As a whole I really like their lineup of cars.

I didn't know Mazda3 came in a coupe trim.
From what I've read, the MS3 was designed to compete with the VW GTI MkV, which is why they went with the hatch; a practical fast car.

Yet another test where the MS3 wasn't compared to the 8, but somebody here had to.

Anyways, if I were shopping for a FWD anything, the MS3 would be my choice. Not because it'll be the fastest, but because the 5 door 3 is such a decent little car. I'd also consider the Civic Si sedan, way less power but a good car.

Some tests I've seen suggested its fast enough to challenge an Evo or STI, hard to believe but may be true once over 60.

Just checked the Canadian site, $32000 Canadian for a MS3, thats like a 10 grand premium over a 3 GT. They must be nuts! A Civic Si is under $27000 here.

If you're really UPSET about the MS3, take one out for a drive. That's really the only solution. Magazines will only make you mad. I read a similar article, got mad, then drove my 8. The 8 still gives me a great big grin.

No-one's going to walk up to you out of the blue and go, "Nice Car" driving a MS3. Unless they are a gearhead.

People love Volkswagons, People Love Muscle cars. To each his own.

DRIVE YOUR CAR >)

lol I made a new conjunction for the spelling impared your're
