78,000 miles and you were thinking transmission wear would be covered?

Haven't we yet reached the full cradle-to-grave, everything is someone else's fault, welfare state?

Why wouldn't it be covered? It was a simple question, I didnt expect such a sarcastic answer...the problem with some people on these threads!

But thanks to the kind guys willing to give me a reasonable helpful answer ! Thanks guys!

The 8yr 100,000mile warranty is just for the core engine components, so it doesn't affect the transmission at all. The transmission falls under the powertrain warranty, the length of which may vary depending on the year of your 8. Even then however, transmission syncros are rarely covered under warranty past ~10,000 to ~20,000 miles, since if there is a defect (the purpose of the warranty), it will show itself early. Any wear and tear from then on is generally found to be the fault of the owner, and Mazda is under no obligation to cover it. Even if you were not the one to put the wear on the syncros, someone other than Mazda did, so they won't pay for it.

Here's a question, and Im just curious.

My trans was replaced at 36K miles and its leaking fluid now at 70K. Did my warrantied trans come with a different warranty? Figured Id ask here instead of starting a new thread.

It would still be covered by the original 60K powertrain warranty. There's also usually some minimum warranty period for the fix itself, which would be important if the warranty work was done at say 59,000 miles.

I've got a question for kr1s. By "extended warranty" do you mean the regular factory warranty, or a separate extended warranty that you bought from the dealer? If it's a separate one, you'd need to check its terms.

The warranty goes with the car, and the clock starts with the date of original retail sale. You get whatever remains in the 4 year bumper-to-bumper, 5 year drivetrain, and 8 year engine warrantees. There's a sticky at the top of this forum describing the 8 year warranty.

BTW - the 4 year BTB comes with free roadside assistance, and if your car is laid up with a warranty issue Mazda provides a free loaner.

simply put, no. Engine only. I'd love to see them drop a new tranny in at 80K lol. I had to fight tooth-and-nail just to get a new one in my 2006 MS6 with 16K miles and that was even in the intial warranty period.

Good luck.

Ask yourselves these few questions:

Is your car under 8 years old?
Is your car under 100k miles?
Is your car in the US or Canada?
Can you provide oil change receipts for the entire period of time that you have owned the car? You might not need them, but can you provide them?

If you said yes to all four questions, then you should go ask your question to your nearest Mazda dealer.
