Mazda RX8 auto?

Anybody know 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for automatic rx8? I mean somebody on this planet probably has already tested it. I just can't find it. :D

Thanks in advance.

sorry bud, but i don't think anyone has tested a final production... and even if they had, they're not allowed to publish those results...
sorry bud...
they'd only be a few tenths slower 0-60, and probably a lot slower in the 1320.

Well I was just wondering and trying to see if auto rx8 is better 0-60 than the automatic mazda6 since rx8 has less HP and torque, but then again, it might have better tranny. What do ya think 0-60 for automatic RX8 will be?

Unfortunately, the RX-8 auto is saddled with a higher final gear (4.30 vs. 4.44 *from memory*), a higher 1st and 2nd gear and power zapping torque converter. All of these factors conspire to make the auto, very lazy of the line. One of the journalist who actually drove the car at Laguna, commented that the automatic 8 would have his grandma asking for more punch... ouch!!! This is what prompted me to check the specs...

Check out the specs for yourselves in the RX-8 press kit.

My estimate would be 0-60 in 8, no worse than 16 @ 85 in the 1/4

For comparison, Hondy Odyssey minivan 0-60 8, 1/4 16@85

Although that's true, it doesn't always equate to slower 0-60 times. The MKI MR2 SC was faster 0-60 than the manual 5-speed, just because the gears were better.

Mind you, the lack of top end would hamper the 0-60, so who knows...

Hi MikeW,

More misinformation? Your estimated times are like your saying the fd3s was only made to go straight because it had a torsen differential (with a very high TBR no less!)...

:D

Or that chirping both tires on takeoff means the car has a torsen differential...

Sam Mitani drove the RX-8 and said that the car took off with a chirp from both rear tires. That would indicate that there is a torque sensitive differential.
Or some other notable stuff

Yeah, I can 'launch' my mom's Intrepid with a chirp of 1 tire.
... If the car had a speed sensitive differential, he would have had 1 wheel spin rather quickly (abrupt engagement) then the differential would bias torque (helping traction) and the faster wheel slow down rather quickly.
Driving your parents Intrepid and Audi and reading a few web pages may not always give you enough to understand everthing?

So its better to get Honda Odyseyy then new Mazda6 auto since mazda6 is somewhere from 7.5-8 seconds.

they're a realistic estimate of performance, and are kinda useful numbers if you wanna compare the manual to the automatic...
if one is to get an automatic car, i sincerely doubt they'd care so much about performance, and would buy based on how much money they could spend, and how much utility their vehicle needs to offer in the case of the 6 versus the Odessey....

I highly question the 8.5 sec number... i mean my 97 prelude with an 4spd automatic has a 0-60 of somewhere around 7.4 sec or so w/ its 195hp I-4. And it's huge in comparison to the RX-8. I would believe a 7.0-7.4 range, hopefully better, but I would hope not any slower...

It's no more of misinformation than Mazda spouting 2700lbs when the car was first announced....now they're not even sure. Why the double standard?

Since the 16" wheels are 7.5" wide, the first upgrade would be to change the tires from 225/55 16 to 235/50 16. That is about a 2% shorter gearing change.

If a Honda Odyssey serves you better than a Mazda6(or Mazda MPV) get it.

I said ESTIMATE.
