MAP Warranty is worthless - Do not purchase!
Topic says it all... don't bother purchasing an extended warranty.. they will not cover parts listed under covered parts.
While they agree the part in question falls under the covered parts, they however said its not malfunctioning due to a defect in workmanship or design. They kept asking me if i did the proper scheduled maintenance on the PART.
I provided them with all scheduled maintenance required and outlined by mazda for the rx8... but apparently I was supposed to go above and beyond the regular maintenance and have the part serviced along with everything else. (Which is a 10.5 hour job in their book - as the engine needs to be removed).
The part in question is an APV motor sticking due to buildup (likely carbon). They said this falls under requiring regular maintenance. (WTF I SAY).
A service bulletin that addresses the SSV motor sticking due to carbon buildup does not fall under the same category of "motor sticking due to buildup".
So in short "apv motor sticking do to buildup" is no where near to "ssv motor sticking due to buildup" as "murder with sharp knife" is to "murder with dull knife"
I was told the only thing they cover is manufacture defects, and it must be proven the part had a fault when leaving the production line.
I asked
Q: what if my motor lost compression and stopped running properly because the seals broke or something.
A: well sir, that would fall under regular maintenance or wear and tare. It would not be covered.
Q: so even though you cover the parts, they aren't covered?
A: we cover the parts from defects in workmanship and materials. But any parts that under go wear and tare, are not covered.
WTF
I asked for a refund on my warranty because its useless... they said it's non-refundable.
MAP warranty UM3660 = a $2,181.96 piece of paper that doesn't do anything.
So that's $3,616.00 (warranty + repair + diagnostic time) that is spent for nothing. I could have purchased an entire motor.. maybe even 2!
And to think I was going to trade in my VUE for another mazda... i think not.

All warranties are cancelable. You will get a pro-rated share back of the cost... It's illegal to sell non cancellable warranties.
This is part of why I tell everyone I can on this forum either Buy Mazda warranty, or NONE at all...
If this is Mazda's, go to another dealer...

Ahhh... I jsut got to the bottom of it....
Mazda TOTAL care is the bumper to bumper... Added care is a glorified powertrain warranty... Engine, Tranny, and suspension... it wouldn't cover the accessory electrical components. That jackass couldn't tell you the real reason, and I can virtually assure you that the F + I guy that sold it to you, sold it as bumper to bumper... Definately go see the GM of the selling dealer, if that gets you nowhere, cancel it with the selling dealers F + I guy... At least you will get somethign back, more then the repair cost I would assume.

It has a long list of coverages for rotary engine, transmission/transaxle, drivetrain, engine cooling devices, fuel control devices, clutch system, steering, suspension, brake system, electrical components and air conditioning. (And under each of those headings are listed parts or components) - including "intake manifold", which thus includes the APV valves that are causing the apv motor to stick.
Mazda canada is telling me they'll issue a refund if the insurance company proves my car is a "total loss".... so i guess the only way to get a refund is to make my car go missing or drive it into a brick wall as fast as i can.

Original Turbo 'd Auto !!
On the reciept that you gotr from the puchase of the "protections plan" have you read all of the fine print?
When I canceled my Ext waranty coverage plan, I had to mail a letter to the issuing dealer to cancel the plan.
Does your plans fine print have any this like this in the fine print?

Hmm, the electrical compnents part sounds like it... I say go to a different dealer before you go too nuts, unless you already had the repair done...
Unless laws are different in Canada(possible), in the US all Extended Service Plans are cancellable for any reason, just go to your dealer and fill out a form.

I had an extended warranty from nissan(bought the car used from a nissan dealership). I had no problem canceling mine. Just talked to the finance guy and I signed some papers and he took down the odometer reading and they prorate it. If you have a loan out, it is deducted off the payoff amount.

Can you ask them what is the regular maintainance schedule for APV motor? and ask them provide you a written schedule from Mazda indicating that since I cannot find anything specifically indicating APV motor.

I have a warranty through the Nissian Dealer that I bought the car from and needless to say it isnt that great. So I have almost 60k miles on the car can I buy a Mazda bumper to bumper warranty and how would I do it, can I cancel the one I bought and have the other added and put in my car payments as well, or do you have to pay seperatly? Is the Mazda bumper to bumper warranty any good? I find that most of the problems I have now arent being covered by my after market warranty.

Nope, not going in your payments. Cancel your current warranty ang your payoff will go down, and you will have to pay out of pocket for a new one.

its like ANY insurance policy. they make money when they deny claims. i dont think this is a difficult concept. never purchase "extra" insurance. it rarely, if ever, pays off.
and if it did happen to pay off for ya, consider yourself the exception rather than the rule.

Guess I am the exception.
I think on ext. warranties you need to research the company, the plan (coverage) and deductibles. Some are good, some really suck.
I have had great luck with cost guard on the bumper to bumper ext. warranty (last one was $1600). I also have had one ext. warranty turn out to be e piece of sh$t. The current one has covered around $800 so far so I am halve way there on payoff/return on cost.
I was just shopping two weeks ago for an Audi TT 250HP coupe. Got the car located, had the options, price was right after haggling for a day or two. Then I look into ext. warranty. The only one offered by the dealership came up on searches on the web as being $hit. The dealer gave me the normal "Oh they are awesome and will cover anything" crap. I sent him a bunch of links showing they were not. The dealer kept calling back offering this and that to they and compensate that issue. I kept telling him this was the only reason. I ended up not getting it. I did research on the web ext. warranties and what I found were semi jokes. The best one I could find was $2100 for power train and core only. nothing else at all. What a joke.
Take care,
Brian

After talking to the dealer i purchased from, they suggested i take mazda to court.
I called mazda canada and requested to have my warranty canceled, they would not. I asked to be transferred to a manager.. I was refused to be transfered several times.
They still say its not covered and will only give me a pro-rated refund if the car is stolen or wrecked.
wow i'm so pissed.
I'm going down to the courthouse today and filing a claim against mazda for the full price of the warranty I purchased in which they don't wish to cover.
