manual transmission gave up!

Before we start let me just say that i'm not complaining! I love the car and i know that every car have their problems!

I bought a 2004 rx8 about 2 months ago, when i bought it, i told the dealer that the transmission had a problem, the pressure plate was anormally hard and seem like the clutch bearing was loose. So i ask the dealer to add in the contract that it need to be fix within the next month!

So about a month after, i took the 8 to the dealer (not a mazda dealer) to get it fix, so normally it's a 2 days job, so to make a long story short:

-MMMM, the pressure plate is bent but the noise is comming from inside.

-oups flood the engine

-take the car to mazda dealer

-oups flood the engine again

Mazda Dealer:

-MMMM transmission bearing gone bad, need a new one

-open the transmission

-yack the bearing parts spread in the transmission

-Order a new transmission

-No more in Canada

-Order frome states

-Wait

-Wait

-Wait

-Wait

-Wait

-Wait

So i'm still waiting and it's been a month now...

But the other dealer let me borrow a nice focus! Let see it that ways, i save on gaz!!

Can't wait to get the 8 back!

Did some of you had a bearing issue??

WOw that really sucks i dont know if i would have trusted the fact of taking it to a non Mazda dealer to get it fixed but hopefully everything works out for you. I would have requested for the part to be over nighted due to the fact they might pull some "its been over a month and now its not our problem anymore' i have ran into that in the past but when you get it back i would take it to a Mazda dealer just to have them check the work, thats the last thing you need is tranny issues - good luck !

I had the bearing issue, just noise though. My mazda guy at Rosenthal is amazing. He dropped the trans to fix it and I put a new clutch in for 0 dollars of labor since the bearing was a waranty fix !

Other than that the 2 nd gear shift fork and synchro was replaced. I bought the car used so who knows who had it before me. Runs great!!!! I have 42,000 on it and bought it at 39K. So far BIG BiG GRINS!!!!!

so your point is that you bought an rx-8 with a busted transmission thanks to the previous incompetent owner. Is that the lesson learned here?

The previous owner is a mature women!

My point is that girl can't drive, no no just kidding, it could happen with any other car, i'm not frustrated about it!

My point was really to see if there was a lot of prob with the transmission or it's just a 1 time things!

On forum most of the time all you see is problem, i know i own a motorcycle forum that is now the biggest forum in Quebec Canada, it's M4E.com for you motorcycle fans, but it's mostly french...

Anyways luv that car and just can't wait to get it back, hope i'll have all the probs under warranty all the recall are done. i'll have a new transmission clutch pressur plate ans clutch bearing at least!

there are a few of us who have had new trans. due to throw out bearing failure, bad pressure plates, exploding clutches, etc.for the record i always let the dealer do the hard and exspensive stuff under wro.had mine replaced at 17,000(new trans)bought the car new w-33miles!always had a 4,5 or six speed car.it's only because the new age world of computers and e-mails and all you hear more about the same kind of problems around the world as of not very many people having the same issue.i love my 8 and won't let just anyone touch it and only a tech can drive it when i am there.even when the mazda dealer worked on the body they flooded the car so keep it where they respect you and your car and not with the backyard guesser.

I will be stupified if it is a just a 1 time thing. Whenever human intervention is required, there will be a risk of breakdown. Humans are consistently inconsistent. So the risk of failure with manual tranny would be higher than a computer-controlled auto tranny... considering all things equal.

By the way yerterday i called the dealer, the transmission was done, so i ask the guy oki, so why no one called me yet....

When the did the test dirve, they found out that the center dash instruments weren't working, i mean the radio and screen where you see all the info and air control...

They try to see what was wrong, and they order a new complete center piece,so my guess is that they probably hit it while changing the transmission and they told me that as an excuse to change de center plate! But it's just a guess!

I'm supposed to have the car tonight!

let's see!
