Really though, you're only making yourself look bad when you reach so hard, based on harmless statements, to make generalizations about someone you've never met. I've yet to find a post where gotdilbert says his car will suck if it's an AT the car will be a piece of ****. Find where he says that please, I'm dying to see it. Btw, no one ever admits to being jealous and I wasn't expecting you to do so either.
How about the very first post. Let me sum it up. Daddy is buying me a car, but its an auto so I dont want it. Go back and read it yourself. I think in order for me to be jealous, it would have to be over something that I dont have. Im glad you put sarcasm in parentheses, because I honestly would have thought you were being serious (it is probably true anyway).

1. Safety
2. Auto Trans
3. Reliability

I'm not trying to sound bratty but in the area I live in most kids drive BMWs, I'm not trying to claim I don't want to fit in. But its mostly the fun to drive factor I want this car, not for the showing off factor. We still have a few cars for consideration this weekend, we're probably going to test drive the Impreza WRX. He says that the Evo and STi I can't get because of bad safety. So anyways if you guys have cars that fit this criteria let me know

I prefer for the car to be RWD or AWD if possible also.

Let your parents know that insurance is VERY cheap on this car too. hell it was cheaper than my honda accord! hehe

safety?? this care has TCS and DSC very important safety features.. along with front/side/passenger airbags. Crash ratings are very good with the 8, look at all the crazy stories and pictures some members have posted up.

auto transmission...well... lets convince him that the MT is better and i think this club has enough info on why the MT is better than the AT.

Reliability...there is always extended warranty. and how you maintain the vehicle is how long it will last.

Be sure to test drive the Legacy GT while you're there. It's got nicer lines, AWD, plenty of room, and good power.

I have no reason to fake this, as I came to this forum to come for help not to gloat. I wouldn't go to a forum on used cars and tell everybody I'm getting a Lamborghini. I'm asking for a practical and although its a bit more than what you guys would call a "cheap" car it isn't overly expensive to us.

I have no purpose in proving myself to you, as I'm getting this car solely for fun, and not to show off, I would get a BMW for that like I said earlier. However if members want me to share pictures of my new car I would be glad to, but not for the reasons you are jumping to.

Pay no heed to the haters... have you talked to mom yet?
What have you and your parents decided?
Hope you goet the MT RX-8, but even if you decide on something else, post some pics when you get it, and keep us posted.

Oh and BTW ...the driving schools can lower you insurance premiums on some states/insurrance companies ;-)

My dad already signed me up with AAA's driving program. My mom is still yet to return from vacation so I haven't been able to talk to her yet. I may get a WRX instead.

I forgot to update this post because I was posting in both the M3 boards and this one. We have decided to get my mom a new RX400h, and I got her RX300 handed down. I'm going to wait 1.8 years till my brother can drive (I just turned 18), before I buy an M3.

I think a lot depends on the parent. The first car my dad got me was manual (but it was still a 15+ year old beater). Considering how well you can drive a stick may also be what is driving your dad's decision. Someone who doesn't drive it well can easily cause much more mechanical repair costs than if they just drove an automatic poorly. He's probably coming from the point of view of having to not only buy your car but pay for its maintenance.

My "Daddy" bought me my car too and I didn't want an auto either. Does this make me a bad and spoiled kid too?

Heaven forbid that when your parents buy you something they buy you something you can both agree on and be happy with...Especially when it comes to cars.

He's not saying he won't take the car, he just doesn't want it and would like to hold out and find a way to convince his dad to get him an MT.

I did the samething, but my power of persausion isn't very good

Still regret not getting an MT to this day. Doesn't mean I don't love my car though, or am not grateful to my father for getting me the car.

Have you test driven it? I personally think the handling / suspension of the stock WRX is TERRIBLE. It really is one of the worst handling performance cars on the road. It's decent 0 - 60, but nothing too impressive. I would never get one without upgrading the suspension, and if you're going to do that, might as well just get the STI.
