I had my M flash 2 weeks ago. The anti bucking feature is great, and I have to say teh car is much smoother- and even easier to rev to redline now. I feel it has gotten a bit better than the first few days I had the flash, BUT.... I feel less power at about 4000 rpm than I used to have with the K flash.

I think now I run constantly at a higher rpm to compmensate. And that negates the better MPG (if any on my car- no tests yet)

I am about the put my CZ1.1 back in and see if it works. There was a problem with my car in that the MAF volateg was higher than normal, and the CZ was causing the car to go into safe mode.

How do you figure your mileage? If you get 230 miles per tank, you're likely getting better than 12-14 mpg (I assume you're filling up after your low fuel light goes on. I rarely get over 220, and according to my calculations, on average I'm getting a little better than 16 mpg.

So if I buy a new 8 in a couple of weeks - will it already have the "M" flash on the ECU?

I just got my 8 last Thursday. Absolutely love it.

The dealer preferred to have the flash done as warranty service after sale, not before.

I don't know if this is common, standard, or my dealer being quirky, but I plan on taking it in in a couple of months anyway for routine service, etc. I'll have it done then.

By the way...I can even express how glad I am I bought this car.

(I had the M flash done a few weeks ago - no big deal.)

Well Maybe, but IME the service dealer's don't read the TSB's, I had to beg for "L" and had my first oil change and warrentee work well after M was available and they never did it.

That experience of lean to rich and many trials leads me to believe that the 8 was leaned out for better performance and economy and is confirmed by many on this board.
I haven't got the M flash yet and I'm a bit hesitant to do so.My understanding of leaner mixtures is that along with better performance it also creates higher exhaust temps and reduces engine longevity.

I just picked my 8 up last week, and it has the L Flash - according to the label on the ECU. I checked it out today. My car was built in Feb. '04 - just before they started doing the M Flash. Chances are it will depend on when your car was built. I believe it will come with whatever it was built with - just check the build date on the door - M was started in March '04. The re-flash will have to be done later on a service visit. I plan to do mine with it's first oil change. 3000 miles should give me a chance to see if there is much difference between the L & M.

There is no way of knowing really if you buy off the lot what flash the car has. I would say enjoy the car and then, when you go for service, request the flash.
