M Flash - At Last!

After twice being turned away, being told I had to have a CEL before they would do it, I called the dealer for an appointment to have service done, fully prepared to argue that if they didn't do the M flash, I'd take my business elsewhere! I was surprised; when I mentioned the flash, the service writer said "oh sure, we'll flash it for you, it's part of a campaign" no arguement!

I'm pleased with the result, driveability is better and the car easier to shift smoothly. Way to go!

I know, I know...it's an old and used topic but I just got my 8 Saturday and I haven't gotten mine flashed yet.....so:

What was your gas mileage at before and after the flash?

I recently had mine flashed...I just asked them had they done the MSP04 recall on my car, and they said they hadn't, so I scheduled an appt. Now, a noob question: I won't pretend to be an expert at sports cars (I've been driving manual for 2 weeks) but what is the main differences between 8's with flash and 8's without? Just so I know what to look out for...

My car was flashed around two months ago and showed improvement in smoothness of shifting and some slight gain in power but no gain in mpg. Had it flashed again as part of new campagn along with new air amplifier. Air is fine now, this time I again noticed a gain in power(even more than last time) and my mpg has gone from between 17 and 18 to between 19 and 20 combined city/highway

Are you sure you don't have it? They should have done it before you bought it, since Mazda is recommending all 8s get it. But knowing dealers, they may have tried to weasel out of this to.

I had the M flash done with my first scheduled oil change. Since then, I have noticed no measurable change in mpg (I'm averaging right around 22 in mixed, moderately aggressive driving on 93 octane gas, with the A/C on all the time). I have noticed that the power curve is a bit smoother between 3,500 and 5,500 rpm. Before the M flash, there was a "bump" right around 5,500. I have to say, I like the "new" power curve better.

forgive my ignorance, but, what is this M flash all about. I just bought my baby last weekend and I'm wondering if there's something I need to be looking into....
