Looking at getting an RX-8

Just thought I would say hello, I have been an RX-7 owner for 7 years now, currently have an 83 LE. I know a good amount about cars, but was curious anything I should look for when purchasing an 8, I know the standard stuff that we look for when getting 7's so I got a foot in the doro there. Any issues with sunroofs or other features? In anycase should have one within the next week or 2. First I have to sell off the Celica GT-Four that I got imported and refurbished.

I would say if you can get an 05 or newer. The 04s seemed to have a lot of issues. Apparently most have been fixed by recalls, but I would say you are better off to get a late year 05 at the oldest if you can.

The '04 models had a recall, yes. But if you can find one that already been recalled and been done with, I'd go with it. I'm trying hard to remember where I read that the '04's produced more power than the '05's and '06's, not like a significant difference, maybe like 3-10? i don't fully remember. Anyone know what i'm talking about? Or am I looking stupid. If no one posts a link, i'll try to get it when I get back from class.

The 8 was originally being rated at 248hp... those of us that purchased them under that belief were given free maintenance or offered a buy back.

Hmm..Nah, I knew about that. But an actual dyno test was showing the difference in power between the three. I feel stupid for not remembering the site where I saw it. I bet people are like, "wtf is this dude talking about?" Oh well I guess. Stupid-me or not, I remember reading that...not that I'm trying to put down '05's and '06's, i'm being serious. But oh well.

My 04 dyno'd 191 whp before any mods. I guess that could be considered above average.

Do your homework. The 8 is a great car. Today I took my wife, my newborn and my mother out for lunch and got to do it in style. Show me a 350z that can do that

of course on the way i had to add a quart of oil, stop for gas, and de-flood the engine, but hey... j/k

Great car, but it has it's quirks, if i had to do it again, i would buy an rx8 over and over.

Was a test of only 3 cars? Then yeah, they're not all going to have the same horsepower.

But if 04s do indeed have more power, W00T

The sunroof looks great when open...it auto opens, but you have to hold the close button down for it to go all the way. I'm not sure if that's the case with 06/07s.

Yeah. Now we need some stock dyno numbers for '05's and 06's. I'm glad I chose the '04 anyways, it's yellow...and you don't see a lot of yellows around here. Plus the colour is exclusive

If you're planning on getting leather seats get an 06, the 04-05 has that ugly plastic crap on the back of the leather seats.
