looking to get an rx8 but dealer told me.....

Called up a dealer and he told me that i should not purchase one form a private seller. Now i figure if i do then i can get an extended warantee from mazda. He said that u should get a certified one from a dealer as they will honer there warantees whereas an extended warnatee from a rx8 purchased from a private seller may not be honored?
So is this guy just making this up or is there soem truth to it? I definetely want an extended bumper to bumper warnatee from mazda but will it make a difference from who/where i buy it from? Thanx for the input.

depends on the situation....what year is it and what mileage?....the dealer is always full of **** and wants to sell you thier car for a huge profit usually....most of the time they barely give a trade in or auction car a once over and then its back on the lot....

I bought my 8 from a dealership but will never purchase another new car. There are too many good used cars out there if you do your homework. Save your money. The 8 resale value isn't that great but that doesn't mean your going to get a bad car. The warranty is good until 60K. I'd check with the owner and the dealership where he bought it to make sure it won't be an issue. Just my thoughts. Good luck.

Dealers will tell you anything to get you to buy from them. After all, if you buy from a private seller they don't make any money off of you, but if you buy from them they get some cash. However, do do your homework on warranty companies before signing for one.

i just spoke to another dealer and he gave me some information but didnt sound like he was 100% sure so he gave me a number to call which i did. The number is for some contracting company that mazda uses as for there exdended warantees but she had no usefull info to give me because the vehicle doesnt have an extended warantee at this moment rather the warantee u get directly from mazda so she couldnt help me.
Im getting worried because i dont think these dealerships know much about there own warantees and i dont want to buy a car that only has 10000 miles left on the warantee then ill be stuck after i make the purchase and that i wont be covered after 10K miles.

let's just do some simple math. if you're looking to purchase a used car private party and you get it for say $18K, that same car will go for about $20-21K at a dealership. add an extended warranty and you're looking at another $1.5-2K. now let's see who is doing the talking. would i, a dealer, tell you it is a good idea to buy from someone else or try to get you to buy from me? hmmm...

as for the current warranty, it is good to 50K miles bumper to bumper and another 10K for the powertrain. and that will be honored by mazda regardless of what this guy says. so if you think that you'll need more than a few thousand dollars in repairs for warranty work, maybe it's worth it. but that also assumes that the extended warranty will cover those items. i'd say go private party and have it checked by an independant mechanic to make sure there isn't anything hidden that carfax won't show you. then use that money you saved for gas and some mods.

Of course it makes sense to buy from a dealer. They offer extended warrenties.

You get what you get from a private seller.

Buy from a private seller. If you think you really need an extended warranty, find one. The one they always offer at the dealer is not affiliated with Mazda, typically.

Greatest web site ever.. to be read before you start seriously shopping for a car.

Buy smart and do your research. Dealers are notorious for misinformation in sales and the service depts.

I bought my 8 from a private seller. He had the extended warranty and Mazda honored it with no problem. I flooded it in the first couple weeks (go figure!) and they towed it and got me all fixed up with no hassle. They also checked on some recall issues to make sure I was up to date. I bought mine for $18k from a private seller when the dealerships were selling for $22-$24k in this area.

Any warranty that came with the car when it was purchased, including extended warr. will "transfer" to the new owner - **assuming the warranty has not been voided** - but a carfax would tell you if it's been voided for some reason.

IMO - and it's an opinion shared by several friends/family/etc who have worked at dealerships - extended warranties are NOT worth it. Especially if you have a good mechanic.

well... after my run around, it is apparent that the dealerships have no clue about extended warrantees if i was to purchase a vehicle from a private party. One guy tells me to contact mazda headquarters, they tell me u need to speak with the dealership which then tranfers me over to someone else who keeps me on hold to getting tranfered again. I must have been on the phone for literaly 1 hour trying to get the facts, so im pretty much going for an outside warrantee company (which i learned that mazda uses anyways after there 4 year 50000 mile warrantee ends and u opt for an extended warrantee)
I did some research and found that this site highly recommends this company . Was just wondering if anyone has had an experience with this company or any others for that matter. My sister got one when she purchased her used slk. Her tranny died out on her and it was replaced via the warrantee company (minus the 200 dollar deductible). She has since sold the car so i dont know which company she used but has anyone heard of or used this particular one? Just looking for pros/cons.

I refer my site's visitors to Warranty Direct for one reason: I'm concerned about the stability of other providers.

But I'm not sure they're a good deal. Read what I say about them in the extended warranty section on my site's page for the RX-8, here:

http://www.truedelta.com/models/RX-8.php

Be aware that they pay very high commissions. This might be why you see them highly recommended elsewhere. If you are going to buy a third-party extended warranty, then based on what I know they are the best source. But I won't recommend them without qualification.
