IMHO, you made a good point with your post in ths thread. But I agree with RIWWP about most of your posts. I'm getting onto sketchy ground, since forum members should not moderate other members (just argue or insult), but...
You should hold off on answering technical questions unless you know the right answer. It's not clear if you're being sarcastic or just spouting superficial knowledge, but either way it does interfere with someone who comes here for help.
I'm sticking my neck out because I do enjoy your presence here. Your enthusiasm always shows through.

If it isn't there already, I think the stickied new RX-8 owner guide should at least have a word of caution about taking monchie's "advice". He does spew a lot of weird information as if they are facts without even at least mentioning a word or two of disclaimer.
All monchie needs to do is type, "I'm not sure but,..." or "Ask the more knowledgeable members here, but here's what I think,..." prefixed to all his posts, then he'll at least not be as troublesome to me.
It's ridiculous that one poster can elicit the need to revisit a "reputation" feature in a forum.

No, I will not make a reference to an individual in a newbie guide, either a caution against or a recommendation for, and he is hardly the only one providing misinformation. The volume is just higher than anyone else in recent history.
Other immature hardheads have been redeemed before, I still have hope for him. They just need a different level of attention and a different kind of response than others.

That statement was a knee jerk reaction and I'd like to take it back.
Even though it's basic forum 101 stuff, I still think that it doesn't hurt to expressly warn newcomers to blindly trust the advice of any "seasoned" member with a high post count. This is the same with all forums but I suspect some new RX-8 owners to be new to forums too.

I do have this in the first post...
I don't think more can be said without undermining the community as a whole.
Collectively, we know more than any one dealership, tech, repair shop, or spec manual. However, as usual, the information doesn't all sit in one place, it doesn't sit in one head, and we have our idiots, our morons, our ********, our kids, our jerks, and our literary incompetents. Just like any forum. Fortunately, we have relatively fewer of those than most other car communities out there. But they still exist.
We also have a Search button, and a Search function for the board, but it isn't very good. It removes words that it sees as common or too short, but are a critical part of the search. It doesn't allow for search by relevancy, as in real relevancy. You mostly have to do alot of hunting and pecking in the search results to come up with what you might be looking for.
Add the two above issues together, and you can easily take all day to find only bad information.

40th anniversary Edition
The RX8 was chosen by Kelly Blue book as "one of the ten best road trip cars". It is truly a great handling, fun and comfortable car for a long drive. With its centered weight with its engine low and behind the front axle, and gas tank in front of the rear axle, the resultant low degree of polar movement ,makes it a car easy to stay centered on the road, with quick ,easy and responsive steering input for quick lane changing moves. .
I have driven my 2008 40th Anniversary Edition RX8 on many long trips of 10-14 hrs at a time, with absolutely NO problems". Just keep check on your oil level (throw a extra can or two of oil in your trunk to use to top off your oil if you are going thousands of miles on one trip). Just warm it up before driving it hard. And always shut it off warm.
My seven rotary cars since 1973 have all been great road cars, so don't hesitate to enjoy this country in your RX8, and you will be getting admiring looks along the way.

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
Thanks. You made me feel welcome. I'm not sure about the rest, but hey, that's their problem, not mine.
I agree with RIWWP.

You're right, mentioning an individual in a guide is going too low.

600 miles on Monday, 600 miles on Wednesday. Out and back from Denver to Oklahoma, Monday on interstate, Wednesday on backroads back.
80F+ to 110 on the way down. 75F and cool on the way back.
Mileage ranged from 19-23 mpg, which was worse than expected. Car has done 25mpg before, which is what I expected. Mileage appeared to be speed and/or headwind dependent. Once you are turning 4000 rpm consistently for the tank, you hit the 19-20 range. Keep it under 4000 rpm and I got 22-23 mpg.
Maybe 1/2 qt oil used during the entire process. Pennzoil 10w-40 in the crankcase.
The seat worked for 10hr+ better than expected. No sore tailbone. Not much wiggle around room, but didn't need to much either. Seats (leather) seem to trap a little heat because they fit me snug.
Not enough nooks and crannies, but loved the chance to run it to redline at every on ramp or stop sign. Liked lower elevation power as well.
This was a trip specifically to heat the car up good and run it long, tank after tank. Usually the thing is a short trip specialist. A/C actually did okay in 110F temps.
No trouble at all except the crappier than expected fuel mileage. Tranny is great once it is warm (I have a crunchy shift to 2nd when cold if you aren't careful).
Didn't exceed 110mph. Love how smooth the thing is no matter where you cruise, the suspension is a little too sensitive for roadtripping.
If gasoline were $1/gal I wouldn't mind roadtripping this thing all the time, even if the range is a bit short, what with the small tank and poor fuel mileage. But I didn't buy it for road tripping so it really doesn't matter all that much.
For reference, my roadtrip car (2009 Camry hybrid) has 38K on in, mostly road trips (already driven it to Anchorage from Denver), in 18 months. Doesn't handle for crap, but that isn't what it was bought for anyway.
Right tool for the job!
