That sucks for Jersey City. I guess I have to find out if the San Diego police department, or any police department in California for that matter, carries equipment for the Lojack system.

FWIW i've heard that Lojack uses an FM frequecy based transmitter hence its ease of detection.
i got GPS put into my car, pretty much like Lojack except the transmitter is satellite based... never had to use it thankfully but it has a couple of other uses too.

this is the "plan" i got for it as well... lets hope i have to find out how good it is or isnt!

LoJack is a nice thing to have but as far as insurance goes it only take 30% off of your compensation fee, not your total insurance fee.

I had my first car stolen, a beater, but when the police took a report, I asked about LoJack. My car didnt have LoJack, but I wanted to know what itd be worth to get in my next car.
The two officers laughed when I mentioned lojack, said it was a waste of money, unless you get it preinstalled from a dealer.
If they get a auto theft report with lojack, and theyre in one of the very few interceptors with a lojack tracker, they wont even bother checking the tracker most of the day.
The tracker is basicaly an FM receiver picking up the "strength" of the signal from your car, and they get a VERY VERY vague little arrow pointer with only like 6 directions. It wont give them the GPS coordinates of your car, or anything to really pin it down, just a basic tracker like scientists use to track wild animals.
And trained scientists can take weeks tracking an animals even WITH their transmitters!
LoJack recovery is really high, but most stolen cars are found anyways, in one way or another, within the first 30 days.
In other words, if your insurance discount after a couple years recovers the cost of Lojack, go for it.
If not, dont even bother with the worthless system. And others who point out the guarantee of the Lojack system, LoJack wont guarantee it if its ripped out of your car, since it wasnt a failure of the units -- its still transmitting

WOW!!!! Isn't that upsetting. Geez. I am not sure what I should do now. I mean, I am not too worried about my car getting stolen, but there still is a chance that it could happen. But, I don't want to spend a thousand dollars on a system that won't do the job it advertised.

Tekk's 8 just get the club that goes on your brakes or clutch. That thing is practically indestructable. Your clutch or brake won't break off, for safety reasons, and the that club thing is also very sturdy. It'll probably cost you like 50 dollars. thats a lot more cheaper than lojack. Here's link to how it looks like.

Thanks a lot for the info. I suppose that would be a lot less of a commitment as opposed to the lojack, for now. I'll purchase that instead.

Bought my '04 8 off of craigslist so i am the second owner and it already has LoJack installed but when i went to the LoJack website and tried to register it i couldnt cause there is no early warning registration number on the card i have. i cant register it online without that number.
and also ive read a bit of people saying that they do not have to pay an annual fee. how do i know if my LoJack is set up and working. the card says that it was installed on01/07/2004 so pretty much when the car was made.

Heres a story...I bought a 2007 Yamaha R1 brand new about a year and a half ago, financed of course. I was only 22 back then so insurance wasn't even an option...completely unaffordable. Anyways I put lo-jack on the bike. I still hadnt made my first month's payment before the bike was stolen. It was while I was at work, I noticed about an hour later because my brother called me (he got a voicemail from lojack saying the motorcycle was being moved). I didn't noticed my keyfob vibrating because I was at work. The bike was never found. Lo-Jack is the worst thing to get because it gives a false peace of mind. The lesson learned for me was not to ever invest in things hooligans like (i.e bikes, cool cars, jewelery, etc) or you might end up a victim.

yeah, unless you have safe storage and all, you will just be attracting the GOONS! I mean, you cant even leave you stuff at the theater... I know our rule of parking farther away, but ONLY IN A SAFE "SECURE" place... Shoot, if it looks shady enough, I will just leave. Ragedy cars, goons hangning out... Shoot, I do not take chances any more... After my incident, I installed a second party alarm. Sys has remote start and all, but all I wanted was the alarm. My friend will enable the rest if desired later. I did not transfer any of the locking over to the other device. I lock and set factory alarm, then do the same with the second party alarm. My silly idea of double protection. Horn, security alarm, both offer imobilizing and the second party alarm will even alert my key(if in range). I am all over a tracking device, but you are almost better off leaving a gps phone in your car to do the tracking. I have though about doing this myself just in case.
I think i will get the club device as well. When not driven, it is garaged and covered. And this will make it even more of a pain for someone to mess with it. IF THEY WANT YOUR CAR, THEY WILL GET IT! The idea is to DETER them in the first place. lock door, check on it if you are away from your comfort zone (Friends home, out of town, mall, movies...), and watch for people following you. I think that is what happened to me. They followed me to my gf house... Glad there as they do not know where i live. I usually take different routes and circles to make sure any potential followers are spoted. Shoot I will miss exits and go way out of the way and park at a store and check things out.
I know overkill, but I am out here in the SF Bay and this mess happens ALL THE TIME! Shoot, good cars-bad cars... These goons will take anything FOR NO REAL REASON SOMETIMES OTHER THAN TO TRASH IT!!!
Dont even get me started on working hard for something and these GHETTO GOONS taking it! Man, I have set up security cams and all just to HELP catch whoever it could be. The cops could care less.. Happens all the time... They are unhappy, underpaid, blah blah blah... I will do what ever to make it easier for them to DO THEIR JOB!
