Cool Love my Silver RX-8

RX-8 is a great package. So many people are concerned about the "dyno results" that they have lost focus of the car's value, as a all around sports package. I love my Silver 8 and did have concerns about the power, but being a problem solving person, I took care of the problem. My 8 has a K&N short ram induction, Megacor plug wires, Racing Beat Cat Back Exhaust and some creative but simple manipulation of the ECU flashed with "L" and can eat up Mustang GT's 350 Z's and G35's. That's my form of "dyno testing" that gives true street results, not to forget that the car handles like a go cart box stock. So, there you have it "Go RX-8 Go!!!!!!!!!!!

When I picked up my 8 about 45 days ago, I had a 75 mile drive back home (damn all the bad luck), mostly straight. When I was about 25 miles out, it started raining, fairly hard. That was when I noticed one of the coolest intangible great things about this car. The rain started pooling up in the grooves of the hood, and when there is enough, the little pool dances around in the grooves and is a bit mesmerizing. It usually doesn't rain that much here during the summer, so I haven't been able to enjoy the show much.

How bout the trick *** details that the car has, I had a friend into Saleen mustangs, he used to boast about the trick stuff they had, that the RX8 has bone stock: Aluminum pedals, carbon fiber drive shaft, braced rear axle, strut tower brace, aluminum hood, and the stangs had stock ford interiors, Blah! Same friend got into my 8 and the first thing he said was how it had a cockpit feel sitting behind the wheel...But to simply sum it all up, it's got a fun factor of 9 1/2...Pretty good for a stock car which are never perfect anyway...Food for thought.--- Matt

Hey, thanks! Don't know if that's in the manual or not but I could have gone years without knowing that.

Still loving this forum.

This hasn't been mentioned for awhile, and maybe not at all in this thread... I like the way the lines of the rotor pattern in the hood continues right through the windshield, into the dash, down past the stereo controls, and into the center console. Smooth!

Car lock

I love the way the car re-locks itself if you don't open the driver door after you unlock it with the key fob. I remember that I kept thinking to myself "I thought that I unlocked the door?" I might have been distracted before I got to the drivers door to open it and if 15-20 seconds pass by before you actually open the door; the car relocks itself. A neat feature in case you unlock the door and then turn around because you forgot something inside the house.

Ok, got to about page 9 and couldn't read anymore before posting my favorites. I love, absolutely love the lighting inside the interior, with the faded red glows down both door's instrument panels.

Small but great thing, the wire cutout in the center console for running cable from the center ac to the cupholder, perfect for cell phone chargers or what have you.

The arm rests fitted into the molding for backseat passengers.

I have Touring Pkg w strakes, spoiler, deflector, accents, appearance pkg, red/black leather, optional extra red interior lights, ect. I would not get more attention in a Ferarri. It looks so cool, people are always wanting me to open it up to look inside. Getting gas the other day across the street from a Pontiac dealer, a sales manager and two salesmen walked across the street to see my car inside and out. One said he wished the GTO looked sportier, but was quick to point out the GTO had much more horsepower. I bet no one walks across Broad Street in Columbus to see a GTO. LOL Love my car, and it does call you to look back every time it is parked. My wife even says when she parks it she walks away and has to look back. I laughed and told her about this forum.

Man, this thread (I just read the entire thing) really makes me want to get my 8 NOW!
Yes, first post been lurking arround the forum for a few days now that I came across it, have always had an eye on the 8, but after reading everything here and on other posts I definitly want this car like NOW, like this minute!

Unfortunately I have some other non financial issues to take care of first

but I don't know if I can last that long without this little gem! (wonder if the dealer will ban me from their premesis if I booked test drives every day )

I just got my RX8 last Saturday and I love it! I had to get to work very early this morning and turning on the lights for the first time resulted in a pleasant surprise; the red letter instruments! I felt like I was flying!!!

Thanks Bob! Will be joining you guys for some get togethers soon I hope.

Just drove her home, and I already have a few "little things" that stood out:

1) I love the way the side mirrors look from inside the car, especially the little splash of paint on the inner part of the mirror. With Velocity Red, when the sun hits it just right, it just jumps out at you with cool gold flakes!

2) The way the "RX-8" flashes across the screen when you first start the car.

3) The way you can see the fender sweeping over the front tire on the drivers side

4) And I know this has been mentioned before, but having a "mute" button for the radio on the steering wheel is incredibly cool and useful. I used the feature on the way home when I got a call on my cell phone. You can hit the mute button with the same hand that is on the steering wheel while grabbing the cell phone with the other hand.

5) The way the NAV screen automatically closes when you turn off the car, and how it automatically opens when you re-start the car.

Damn, I'm in love already!

Thumbs up

Welcome to our world, Rob. You're now driving the most optimally integrated, most unconventionally designed, smoothest, coolest new car on the road today...

"...welcome my son, welcome to the machine..."

Ciao!

Nicely stated.

And I love the appropriate quote from Floyd!

I had a jeep following me real close just off interstate 70 in Colorado. The exit ramp was a nice sharp turn twistie. The RX-8 took the turn like it was nothing and I left him way back there. He about turned over his jeep as I glanced in the rear view mirror. Dare a jeep try to follow an RX-8 in a twistie!!! Yeah I know, jeeps are for off-roading.

I had a similar experience, but it was me. There is a shortcut that I take that has some real nice twisties that I take at 70 or so. It had been a while since I drove my truck and I took the shortcut today. I nearly flipped it trying to go as fast as I did in the 8. I actually had to slow down to 30 on some of the turns I got used to taking at 70.

Yes that is a problem then. I did the same thing with my Toy truck with 162,000 on it!! I thought I was in the RX---- I must have had a serious day dream going on and I had to hit the brakes on a turn off!!! Darn!! like the way the RX makes any turn. Not sure how it handles on wet pavement yet. Don't want to get the carpet wet at the rear tire wells.

3) The way you can see the fender sweeping over the front tire on the drivers side
