Link for checking request ID/order ID
Link for checking request ID/order ID
Somebody asked this in another thread and nobody answered, but for those of you who have received your request ID from Mazda for your pre-ordered RX8.....what is the link to use for tracking your car's progress through production/delivery?
I got my number on a copy of the "Retail Buyers Worksheet" today from my dealership, but no web address to use with the number.
I'm going to go ahead and e-mail the electronic-robotic-blow-smoke-up-your-***-and-dodge-the-original-question-as-much-as-possible rx8orders@mazdausa.com to see if they know, but I thought I would check here too.
If anybody knows.....post the link.
Thanks!

Yeah, I've been wondering this as well. I e-mailed Mazda at rx8orders@mazdausa asking about tracking the progress of the car I ordered (and gave details about which variation, where, when, and the salesperson) and got a standard form letter back with a confirmation number I could use, to go to a dealer to order a car!
It did say I would be notified within 30 days after the dealer places the order on the car, with info on how to track the progress of the car's assembly, etc. I'm starting to get a bit nervous, as it will have been 30 days as of Friday, since I placed the order.

rx8 orders support, tracking
FWIW, they have (the same person each time) has been helpful, friendly and prompt replying to my inquiries at rx8orders. I have also heard it will be about a month when we get email from Mazda about how to track our orders, which were placed with Mazda January 13th regardless of when you actually placed your order. I believe they'll come through with that expectation, or at least very close to it. I do check my email box for that at least a couple times a day. Remember though you won't be able to track the car through the entire productio process. It'll be more of a summary - probably production start date, completion date, expected transport from Japan and arrival at port here. It's hard but we still have to be patient. This is as new for them (the whole preorder, online tracking) as it is for us.
How about February orders?
Does anyone know when they put the February orders in? My dealer confirmed he had submitted my email (after I emailed the rx8orders email and had them call him to explain how to do it) and I'm anxious to know when they are actually being placed so I can start looking for my confirmation number.
Uh oh, January 13th? I actually went in to the dealer to order on the 10th, but changed the spec to a 6-speed on the 13th. I was told I had until that Wednesday (the 15th) to change my order, for the first shipment. I hope I got in under the wire!
As usual, I'm probably worrying over nothing. (my life is kinda boring)

I don't understand the comment about a January order deadline to make the first shipment. They have not started production yet; and won't for at least another month or so. Why would Mazda impose a deadline?
What if (hypothetically) they only received 10 orders in January? Do you honestly believe they would only produce 10 cars in the first production run?
I believe they have a fixed number of cars that will be produced in the first run, and will take orders until that number has been reached. Then, once that numbers has been reached, all orders from that point will go to the next run.
Does this make sense to anyone else, or am I way off? I'll be the first to admit, I don't know a thing about car production.

Hi jonalan, most of us (at least I am) are going by the dates on the pre-ordering faq from the RX-8 website. Each dealer gets a certain number of cars, based on how big the dealership was or something, that they were (are) able order at three times: in January, February, and March. Once they reach their quota, they can't order any more- and I'll bet they've ordered every last one they were allowed and not just the ones they had pre-orders for. I'm sure at least a few aren't earmarked for certain people, and the dealers will have a few left over to sell. Else they wouldn't have any to put on the lots to show off.
They probably needed the deadlines for production because, like everything else that is created in a factory, they have to make sure they've got everything ready. They can't just jump in one day and decide they're going to make X# of this type and X# of this other type without at least some kind of preparation for each production run for colors, interiors, engine types, etc, etc. Hence the cut-off date for changing options if you want to receive your car by a certain time.

I wouldn't have guessed so many people wanted the Titanium and almost nobody wanted the yellow. I think a year ago we all wanted the yellow because that was the latest prototype color. Appearently, we all got tired of the color. Then with the anouncement that the yellow leather option didn't exist, it killed the idea for everybody else. I also was thinking a lot more people were going to order the red.
I also think that we, as enthusiasts have slightly different tastes than the average person. They might sell a lot more automatics to the general public who will buy the car just for the looks. They also have to work this into their plans.
I stated in another thread that I submitted a change last week to my order. I was in the first batch of preorders.
I know it has been stated that changes had to be submitted by some mythical date in January in order not to delay the vehicle delivery. Did anyone ever confirm this information? The rotarynews.com article did not mention any delays and neither does the FAQ section on the RX-8 website.
I realize that parts have to be ordered for the different vehicles etc. in order to build them to the specs, but I feel like Mazda would be purchasing more than the exact amount necessary to build the cars. This could account for damaged/defective parts etc.
Regardless, I made it CLEAR that I did not want to submit a change if it would delay the vehicle. My dealer investigated and then made the change after finding out it wouldn't delay the vehicle.
Thoughts??

I remember reading that we'd be able to modify the order up to the date that the actual production begins. Since engine production only began last week, I still think the actual car production won't start rolling until close to if not in April. I do not believe there is a specific cutoff date but there has to be some time built in for the change request to make it throught the necessary channels to the production line in Hiroshima - so it wouldn't surprise me if we have reached the cutoff for pre-order batch #1 (January 13th orders). And I agree with the idea that any dealer who somehow didn't have all their first allocations ordered by a customer likely ordered one for the floor to sell - and probably went with a GT package, likely even with (hey, they sell) an autoslush tranny.
The first order date to Mazda, from dealers, I believe now to have been Jan 13th. The FAQ on their website says the program goes from Jan 7th through March 8th. They say orders placed in Januray will arrive June - August. They do not specifically put a 'by date' in their information for those January orders. As I've said before - this is as new to them as it is for us - so they may have stretched the 13th through even the end of the month - or maybe even to February 6th since 2/7 is when the 2nd set of allocations were to be ordered. I do know that the web information changes slower than the actual decisions to modify what they thought they'd do when the released the information in early January. That said - if a dealer didn't have his first allocation spoken for on Jan. 13th it may be quite possible they could submit an order for any available units from that first batch for quite some time after Jan 13th...
