Of course not all automatic wagons are lame. Notice the joking smiley at the end? The S4 Avant and Magnum Hemi are two nice wagons in automatic, as is the V70R. I'd still rather have a manual though.

To the OP: can you explain why it is you have to get rid of the 8? I've got two kids and the 8 works great for us.
Oh, the joking smiley. I thought you had something stuck in your teeth.

I'm saying, for the average person, the differences between a g35/37 and a 335i are subtle. This is all a matter of my opinion of course: The BMW has got it beat in suspension refinement (BMW has always been great at attaining a sublime balance between a competent sport suspension and a comfortable, complaint ride). The g35/g37 has more of a tendency to crash over bumps. Steering feel is likewise better on the BMW, so long as you forgo the active steering option, which, I maintain, is complete ****. Now as for power, they are both putting out similar numbers, Infiniti is 328 HP and 269 Ft lbs or tq, BMW in 335 form gives you 300 of each, for quite a bit more money I might add. I honestly give the g37 the edge in terms of interior, as I maintain that the BMW design is plain and, especially in black, spartan and boring. While the g37 may be ever so slightly inferior in quality (if at all) it has a more modern looking design.

Based on the aforementioned attributes, it's easy for me to surmise that the 335 is only slightly better than a g37. Basically, the g37 is a little rough around the edges, but gives you 9/10ths the BMW experience for much less cash, not to mention that the g37 comes with more standard features than the BMW. End of the day, I'd rather have the Bimmer, don't get me wrong, as I'm one of the few who cares a lot about that extra 10th, as evidenced by the fact that I was actually crazy enough to buy a 2010 RX-8 R3. However, I wouldn't feel bad taking the g37, as it's really perhaps inferior by an ever slight margin. We're all enthusiasts, but I'm sure the average person would barely notice the difference. What I'm saying though is that even to people like us, the difference is very small.

Interesting... I drove a 135i, in auto, and quite liked it, except for the (active) steering. I guess it would make sense to drive one without it.

If you are still looking...

Like two other people have already said, Evo X MR. I traded my RX-8 for one about two months ago. I miss the 8, but the Evo X is a completely different animal. If you are looking for luxury, then BMW or Audi would be a better choice, but for sheer fun and enjoyment, with practicality (auto-ish and four doors).

I can give you more info, if you are interested.
