Hay Guys... I work for a large tire manufacture here in CA. Just reading about the issues you had with LS. tire store... Just wanted to let you guys know some things...

The 52 phi reading you checked may have actually been lower... If you drove your vehicle before you checked it the air in the tire is Hot and will expand and show an inaccurate reading.. (MORE AIR THAN WHAT IS IN THE TIRE) always check your cars tires after the vehicle has sat for at least two hours.. The cold air pressure in the tire is the most accurate. When the air is hot it can show 7-10 phi more than what is in the tires.

Also. Your tire was not in any danger of blowing out.. The tire size you have on your vehicle is a hard metric or Euro spec. tire. Most of the time the Max load is 50 phi. Max carrying load is at 42 phi. The ONE tire on the AX is the Dunlop SP sport 8090. This is a Euro spec. tire and filling it to 52 PHI is not recommended but will not blow out on you when you are using the tire. The risk from a blow out is using the tire in a under inflated/overloaded condition where there is not enough air pressure in the tire to properly hold the weight of the vehicle in service. This condition can result in sudden blow out or extensive tire damage. If your tire is d the main thing you should have the service tech do is check to see if there is any run low damage on the tire. From the outside the tire may look fine or have some slight discoloration. But the best way to find out is check the inside of the tire. If this is damage DO NOT USE THE TIRE. The tires integrity has been compromised due to lack of air and being driven on. Your Direct style TOMS system will not show any lights if it has too much air in it. It will only show a tire check light if the air drops lower than the programmed phi for the sensor. With Non-Direct TOMS may throw a light that is because the system goes off the rotation speeds of each tire. If your tire is bigger than the other tires due to high phi. this may trigger a light. The AX only uses a direct system. Oh yea... DO NOT DEPEND ON YOUR TOMS TO TELL YOU YOUR TIRE IS LOW ON AIR.. On average. Any tire and wheel combo looses 1-2 phi of air a month.. Carry an ACCURATE TIRE GAUGE with you and check your air every week to see if your air ever becomes lower than what is recommended by the vehicle manufacture.

As for a problem with the tire. There may have been an incorrect balance with the tire that was causing the vibration. This is not a safety issue just annoying. I'm sure LST would have correct this no problem. If there is something wrong with the Rim this may be the cause of your vibration issue as well...

That's about it. Hope this helps.. Its more safe to have MORE air in your tire than Less air than what is recommended by the vehicle manufactures air pressure settings. That would be Dangerous.

HOPES THIS HELPS..

Have someone check the torque on the lug nuts!!!! Most tire shops use way too much pressure when they tighten the lugs. This can damage the wheel and the brake rotor.

Thanks!! My car sat overnight since it was dark and would have been next to impossible to read the gauge. I got home around 1:30 a.m. and when I checked my tires it was around noon the next day. I got 52 psi. I used something called "Accutire" to check it with. I like that tire gauge. I don't have any trouble with letting air out before I can get a reading.

My tire wasn't driven with it "low" per se. It acquired a screw and while sitting over about four hours was slowly leaking air to the point that when I started the car to go somewhere the TPMS light was on and it beeped at me. It went less than 1/4 of a mile to circle back to check it and then back to the space where I park it. I then had to let it sit until Saturday (happened on Thursday) since i ahd far too much going on with work and job interviews and such. I called Roadside Assistance and they told me I would need to move the car out of the driveway. I took my stepdad's portable air compressor with me in case my tire was completely flat or at least too low to safely move it around several feet. It still looked pretty inflated, nearly the same as the other ones, so I didn't use the air compressor. I backed it out and parked it like roadside assistance said to do. After I moved the car I heard it leaking air again and it was slowly getting flatter, enough so that the tow truck guy thought it would be better to pump the tire back up with air to load it up. It seemed to be holding its air and not hissing at this point.

Anyways, after I discovered the air issue the next day I let out the 20 extra pounds, according to the gauge reading. I drove it Monday to the place that sells Dunlop tires and had them check it out and they said they didn't find any evidence that the tire itself was damaged, particularly since I didn't drive very far on it and it had been a cool day (high 50s when I had it fixed and low 40s when I drove it home) so less expansion would have occured. The balance and everything feels fine now that the air is even between the tires so I'm pretty sure the 20 pound air difference is the cause.

The only real problem I seem to have now is the scraped off paint/coating around the logo in the middle of the rimm, which they said they would take care of.

My mom had that happen on her old 323 after getting a tire rotation somewhere. The brakes were fine though. The wheel was damaged and they damaged/cracked the nuts. The shop got her new stuff and fixed it up for her.

One time I overfilled my tires...no comment about why I did that. lol But yeah, my tire pressure light came on and yelled at me until I got to a gas station. Maybe you should get that checked out, just a suggestion. Sorry to hear about all that crap you had to go through.

I'm supposed to go into the dealership soon for my recall since I expect to hear about my sunvisor by the end of the week. I will definitely have them check it since I feel they are more likely to know what they are doing. I should be going in next week. I don't think I have much in the way of driving to do this week, just places I go with my mom (embroidery club ) so I can get away with not driving it in case I do have a problem with the sensor.

You dont want to "get away" from not driving... its just no fun missing your 8. And I dont think being a dealership automaticly qualifies as knowing the product they sell beter then you. Im in the computer business, and have been for a long time. I can tell you most of them dont know the product they sell. This goes for retail, manufacture, and repair shops.

IT should only go off if there is an under inflated condition. When the Sensor is set. It is set to the minimum required air pressure.. This air pressure should Be in the tire when it is set.. Mazda Recommends 32 psi in the tire. So the tire should be set to this air pressure when the sensors are set. When tires are being used the air pressure in the tire increases anyway so making the sensor read "too much pressure" would make the sensor go off a lot. There may be times when too much air is in the tire and may cause the sensor to malfunction or have a problem. This would mostly be due to the high air pressure not because it reads air being too high at any given psi. Unless something has changed in the past year with TPMS this info should be correct.

So to answer your Question..... MAYBE... The sensor is supposed to alert you if it is under-filled. If it is too far over-filled you may damage the sensor.

Hahaha.
The sensor burned out from over inflation. Good idea. Does this explain why the oil pressure sensor doesnt seem to work either?

I just finished reading my manual about it and it only mentions it coming on for under inflation, so I guess that would be why it didn't go off with the extra pressure.

bunny, did u test the sensor then by first under-inflating and starting up to see if it lights up? that sensor is like $120 a pop. if what wreak says is true i hope they didn't damage it by over-inflating...
