bad idea to leave car in 1st during storage while the handbrake is down?

I leave my '8 in [1st] gear in storage. It's better than stretching the E-brake cable.

You could alternatively use wheel chalks and leave it in neutral tho'.

I leave the car in gear when the road has an angle (uphill 1st gear, downhill reverse).

Leaving an automatic transmission in "park" is essentially in gear, so no reason not to do so with a manual.

Yes, leave it in first with the handbrakes off while in storage.

I leave it in first with the handbrakes on for normal parking, just in case spirited driving causes too much heat in the rear brake disc.

I just left mine for 7 months in first w/ the handbrake down. No problems.
