KNN air filter allows too much dirt to go to the engine ???
Just took my car to the dealership for some schedule maintenance. They told me that KNN air filter would allow too much dirts to go to the engine and it MIGHT void the warranty ... i am a noob to this car, but is it really the case ??? thanks
Depends.
if oiled *properly* , K&N filter should be about the same as paper filter, and after a while of use, K&N filter will actually be able to filter *better* than paper filter.
But doesnt matter, your dealership is shitting you. You can tell them to *proof it to me*, that will shut them up.

paper filter is probably the best, but it also has the highest airflow restriction.
K&N more of less the same as the others, but it has the best airflow.
Still, calling K&N allows dirt into the engine is just stupid. stock paper filter allows it too, so whats their point ?
There are cars out there with K&N made 1 Million miles. Cant say the same for paper filters.
Motor oil will hold dirt/debris in suspension. Drain your oil at proper intervals & you're fine. Especially the small amounts that get through an air filter.
It's all about oil in moderation with K&N filters. A little oil goes a long way.
If your MAF goes bad and it's covered in intake oil, then the dealer my not want to cover the MAF. That's worst case scenario with a K&N. Oil lightly and use MAF cleaner when you can.

I use it for over 6 years in other cars never had any problem with that ...
^^^^^^
It wasn't me. I bought it used.
I think they soaked it in oil, cuz the whole intake box and tubing were oily. After a good cleaning of the whole system, including the MAF, the car ran MUCH better.
I am kinda wierd when it comes to air filters. . . . I like the ones the factory uses.

Come on a k & N drop in filter comes oiled just right & it last a long time. If you buy it used that's a different story. It should be safe if bought brand new.
When re-oling it's when people get out of hand and put to much...

On K&N's website they also say they will cover the cost of your repair if the dealer denies warranty service based on one of their filters (last time I checked, anyway). They will pay for your repair and fight with the dealer/manufacturer to get reimbursed. You just have to be willing to help them with whatever info they need, which shouldn't be a big deal.
Yea, K&N specifically has on that sticker it will not void the warranty. So if the dealer honestly did void your warranty then you could go after K&N. That would be retarded. Either way theyre in the wrong and youre in the right so dont even sweat it.
