Just ordered
Hi all -
I just ordered my RX-8, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I might expect from Mazda in the way of communication. I have been hearing that the early pre-orders have been receiving books, which I don't really expect, but I was wondering if the company would e-mail when they receive my order. I am sort of concerned that they won't get it right.
Anything that you guys could tell me would be appreciated

Congradulation on ordering the RX-8.
As for info I can't help, but you might try and call or email the RX-8 orders people at Mazda NA. They may be able to look it up for you.

I just ordered mine on 5/17 (it's one of their allocated cars) and other than the dealer calling me to let me know that the new accessories pamphlet was in (he mailed it to me) and a call back for a question I had, I haven't heard anything else from them or Mazda.
I'm not expecting to hear from the dealer until they get a demo in for me to check out or when the car is just about ready to be delivered.
As for hearing from mazda, my guess is that you and I will NOT be hearing a peep from them.
edit: oops - Welcome to the board!

Yup, that's about what I was thinking. It's a pain though because I'm sure that something is going to get screwed up somewhere. Oh well, what good is life without a little risk?

I ordered it at the dealer in West Chester. It isn't the closest to me, but when I checked out the web-site, it was the closest dealer listed on the web-site, and I decided that ordering it from a dealer who was computer savvy might be a good idea. It was too. The salesman had more info than I'd even been able to find on the web. He had gotten onto Edmund's.com, and when he sent my confirmarion to me, he included a printout from the web-site just pointing out the features that he had ordered for me. I have no problems at all with the dealer. They've been great!
Where are you?
I ordered the basic car, cloth seats (to avoid the Vehicle Dynamic Control) Lightning Yellow, Cassette Player and Rotary Accent Package. I may have a few more trim items put on as accessories after the car comes, but basically that's what I wanted.

I went to two dealers (I already told this tale before somewhere in this forum - just too tired to look it up for ya)
Briefly, the first one, Sussman in Willow Grove, was a joke. I used Mazda's website to "build my own" and picked them as the dealer. OF course, they called me to tell me that the 8's were expected in at the end of May (YEAH RIGHT!). I made an appointment to see them and printed out all the info I had about the pre-order program from this site, including an internal email sent to Mazda dealers that listed the approx release schedule). After they read that they just shooed me out the door - no talks of price or anything else, just "We'll call you"
I then went to Faulkner Mazda in the NorthEast (just to verify what Sussman had said) and the salesmen there just shook their heads (almost in disgust). They were really nice and just let me wander around the dealership and the lot checking out the vehicles that they had (man, that M6 is sweet).
A week later, I called and then went to Faulkner to place my order! My eta is (hopefully) mid-July.
It would have been kewl of we were at the same dealer - imagine TWO 8s leaving the lot at the same time!

Thanks that's good to know. I got the sense from them that they trust virtually nothing that Mazda says, and that they have been getting their information from the web more than anything else.
Personally, I love car salesmen. I have saved myself a fortune by not buying a car for the passed eleven years because every time I walked into a car dealership the salesman would start jerking me around, and I would storm out in a huff. The RX-8 has been going OK for me so far. As long as it comes somewhere before winter, I will probably be a happy guy, but if it doesn't, I am going to be jumping up and down spitting tacks.
Have a better one. -

Fun though. I hope that your car comes in mid-July. They are talking end of August for mine, but I think like the weathermen around here now, they have no idea what's happening.

I believe you can switch the DSC off if you so desire.

It is true that you can switch off the DSC, but what does off mean? I read a review of the G35 coupe in which they took it up on a track, and raced it around with the DSC off, and it wouldn't stop mucking around with the car.
When I drive a car, the only co-pilot I want is God. Not 50 poindexters with pocket protectors sitting in an engineering lab somewhere going, "Do you think this guy really WANTS to turn left?"
When they introduced ABS, those systems worked like hell. My parent's mercedeses had the ABS constantly going on on straight dry road. My brother's chevy was the same. When they introduced Airbags, the system killed twenty people a year in otherwise very survivable accidents.
I talked to a guy who currently has a DSC type system in his Ford Explorer. He told me that he stopped at a stop sign, looked both ways, then turned right. The car ended up on the wrong side of the road because the 50 poindexters felt that he really didn't want to make that turn. No I prefer to leave new engineering to others to test, and I have been driving successfully for years without it. I'll probably live a few more without it, although I am sure that it will work fine on the Mazda. It's just my thinking.

It's similar to the BMW type DSC... Mercedes has a tendency to put more safety than sportiness in their cars and I suppose that your comment simply proves that point.
