The stupid Midas store wouldn't even throw in a free set of pads. They're just lucky legal action wouldn't be worth the trouble.

From that point I do all the work on my car - Ill only take it to the dealership for something major like the engine replacement I just had to do.

F*&K THE MIDAS TOUCH!!
I would have taken them to court and busted their ***** for all the money I could get! That's just unacceptable. Please tell me you at least got something extra out of it...lol No free pads...shiiiit.

For the record, in case someone was talking to ME, I never wished and never would wish anyone who makes an INNOCENT mistake out of a job.

I absolutely think Jiffy Lube is a case of major failure as there have been documented reports by the thousands about that chain, in particular, not just upselling, but committing outright fraud in every state in the U.S., including not changing filters that they charge for (and let people think they did), resuing motor oil, charging for coolant flush and fills that they don't do, telling little old ladies that their wipers need replacing on a newish Camry with 5k miles on it (that's theft, not upselling). etc., etc., etc.

So **** Jiffy Lube, and if you were talking to ME, and you don't like my comment, **** YOU TOO.

If you weren't talking to me, please disregard.

I was talking about Pat's post... I think taking a customer's car out for a joyride is enough grounds for a termination of employment... let alone the fact that he wrecked it? Dear God... if that would've happened to my car the mighty hammer of my wrath would've fallen hard.

No joke, that's just insane. I would probably have exploded in rage, blacked out and came to with blood all over the walls...Who's blood? Nobody knows.

I dunno about over there, but here your car is covered by the shops insurance when you've handed it off. So any theft/crap that happens there, they have to cover.

I'm sorry you or someone you know got screwed at some point but in 6 1/2 years I have never once done any of the things you have mentioned. I have seen it happen but I have always reported it and 99% of the time someone was fired for it.

So please don't make generalizations about ALL of the employee's of a corperation. My mom and grandmother have always used juffy lube and I always keep that in mind when I deal with people who come in.

The only difference between most quick lube places and jiffy lube is that we have about 100 times as many stores so if something happens it makes the news. I see cars EVERY day that come from dealers "trusted" mechanics and other big name places that for some reason still have our filters in them even though the customer went somewhere else in between visits to us.

I have no doubt there are honest JL employees, but I've seen way too many bad ones so the brand is kind of tarnished in my mind.

Maybe human nature.

Sadly thats true to an extent. We are CONSTANTLY told we need to sell more but I just ignore it. I offer the services to customers and if they dont want it fine if so thats cool.

Look up on you tube the jiffy lube scam from a few years ago. The company that owns my store owns the ones in LA also. After that they fired 1 DM 2 store MGR and took that 2 regions away from that regional mgr.

I thought that's how it's supposed to work here.

Midas's insurance did cover all the repairs. The problem about trying to take them to court is that I would have had to prove that he was joy riding and not doing their bullshit car inspection. Despite telling them specifically that I just wanted the pads replaced they did their "complete coverage" inspection. I have no clue if that involves a test drive BEFORE doing the work or not. I would have had to do some tricky investigating to determine if the mechanic was supposed to drive the car before working on it or if the driver deviated from the standard test drive path. With my schedule in the Navy that was just not going to happen. The best I can do now is bad mouth Midas all I can and tell people not to take their cars to these types of places.

**** like this can happen anywhere but recently it has been very cold and I met a guy who manages the Jiffy Lube near my house so I figured I'd let them do it for the convenience so I took him five quarts of castrol GTX and they changed my oil. Well, the next day I drove to my parents house (two hours away) and when I got there I was checking my oil and I noticed a Wix filter (the brand I use when doing it myself) So, I called Jiffylube and spoke to the duded and asked what brand they used and it was not WIX. So, I was pissed and I brought it back right away that Monday and they went and bought Castrol and replaced my filter and oil.

Good thing BHR doesn't follow this model. I spend as much time telling prospects that they DO NOT need certain things, sometimes BHR's own product, as I do telling them what they might want to consider when doing mods to their RX-8. I can also tell them WHY I specifically prefer a given product versus another.

To me, that is what a business is supposed to do and how it is supposed to treat people.

I honestly believe that one need not lie, cheat, nor steal in order to make a decent living doing what one loves.

Ok, so i got the letter of authorization (I only had phone auth before) from jiffy lube today in contract form, saying that they will pay for the tranny, and all related costs. including auto rental. They will probably stick me in a chevy cobalt :P oh well, it will make me appreciate the 8 more when i get it back.

Im taking my baby into mazda now, the nice, and very hot lady there said i just gotta bring in the letter and forget my car is there until they call me......so i guess that means they are going to go after jiffy. She said that the stuff still isnt in, but not being able to drive my car i dont mind. She did say my car will be there about a week.....maybe two i want to cry......

I use jiffy lube for my oil changes. I just don't have the time to do it myself, and it's 10 bucks more.

That said, I always stand in the bay or in the driveway looking in (even they they usually direct me towards the waiting area initially) and keep a close eye on what they're doing. I do this in a respectful way, not hounding them at all, and usually chat it up a little bit as they don't see too many rx-8's to be honest. They realize that I care a lot about the car and jsut want to keep an eye on things, and i feel like they perk up and pay a little extra attention to what they're doing, as well.

Also, I very clearly say "I just want the oil change" I don't want the rest of the "full service" stuff like cleaning windows filling the washer fluid, vaccuuming inside, etc. Just the oil, less opportunity to do something stupid or make a mess.

Keep an eye on things, and you shouldn't have problems.
