VA Jiffy Lube is buying me a transmission.

First off, dont do like I did and choose them out of lazy impatience.
I went to jiffy because the local mazda dealer is about 25 minutes away and had a 2 day wait, where as the jiffy lube was only 2 blocks away.

With that being said, I went there for the typical oil change, and since my car is at 35000 miles I decided to get my tranny oil changed.

As soon as I left the jiffy, I notice my gearbox making a loud whine, sounded just like a ported supercharger.... NOT GOOD.....

I took my car back to them on saturday and complained, the "tech" if thats what you can call him. asked me to drive the car across the parking lot so he could hear it, once again, loud as crap whine coming out of first....his response, and i quote, "oh that is normal for a manual"......I was dumb founded.....at which point I left and went home.

Since it was changed on a friday at 5pm the dealership was closed and also on saturday. I managed to get my car in there today, the 27th, since that was the only opening. After about 30 minutes the service ASE certified tech comes in the lobby holding a cup with this black sludge......and according to the cup there was only .9 ounces of tranny fluid in my car with the consistency of honey. He said he had to wait 15 minutes for that much to run out.

Thankfully the dealership is very motivated, and said that this is NOT the first time they have had to fix jiffy lubes mistakes. So with thier help, they contacted jiffy corporate headquarters, and now jiffy is sending me a 98 dollar check for what I paid for mazda to check it and the reimbursment for the original "Change". AND they are going to pay for my new tranny.......so for the next week I have my car, or until the tranny comes in and I take it there....I am left with a rather LARGE peice of metal taking up space in my garage.......

That sucks. I have worked at jiffy lube for over six years and i hate to say I have worked with many idiots in my time there. Every few months we get a list of warrenties caused by all the stores in our region and I am not suprised why laces like us have a bad reputation.

Good luck and DO NOT let them try to stiff you in any way. They will get you a rental car if you ask. And do not let them try to cheap out on the repair. they will basically pay only what you make them. But they will pay the full repair. I am suprised they didn't try to get your tranny rebuilt instead of replaced.

Sorry to hear. Where are you located? Maybe you could find a good mechanic in your area from others on here.

the guy was probably working on three cars at once trying to be fast but just ended up being stupid. put in the drain plug walked away then never filled it.

My advice is if you don't know anyone there then just stand in front of your car and watch them do the work. Worst that happens is that you annoy them.

that's what it is.. some techs don't have the capacity to multitask and make simple but BIG mistakes like these.

though everything is working out for you and it's great that you have such a cooperative dealership.

That's great.

I detest Jiffy Lube and hope they're soon out of business. The sooner the better.

Biggest scam-business model in the world, and most of them are completely dishonest and unethical selling unneeded services and products to naive customers (who are lucky to actually get the work performed).

Jack You Off Lube Sucks FTW!!!

well now you have a chance to upgrade tranny components. light weight flywheel, performance clutch... the works!

sorry to hear you were served lemons but you have more than enough now to make killer lemonade.

btw, wishing ANYONE out of a job is just plain shitty. Yes, companies try to upsell. that's their job. However, wishing someone out of a job... dude you just need punched in the mouth 17 times by every single person who works for that company. No one deserves to be out of work. (just like i am sure you are thinking you dont deservepunched for thinking that way) You simply see it as revenge against one person... fuktard, do you even consider the consequences of that one person losing his job and who it affects dowbn the line? No. you just like talking big and hoping people rally around your meladramatic, vengeance seeking, flag waving stupidity. Ya, JiffyLube fuggered up. Ya, the "tech" probably can't multi-task. Yep, he will probably lose his job because now that store has to buy someone a new tranny... But wishing someone to lose their job. You sir, and everyone who is like minded... sucks unwashed monkey nuts. Kharma is a bitch. rest assured, she will prove it to you.

my 1st job after hs was jiffy lube and i never fucked up but I didnt know a thing about an automobile. I learned alot about maintenance in the 2 yrs I was there while attending night courses in electronics although it was on other peoples vehicles

I did once see a guy forget to put an oil drain plug back in so the guy upstairs added oil and itdrained right thru then sent the customer off. The tech felt really bad about it as the owner had to buy a new block.

oh man ijust remembered this, IF YOUR WIFE WEARS A SKIRT TO JL HAVE HER STAND BACK OF THE BAY

The asst mngr at my JL had a friend who worked under hood and would squirt oil around the vavle cover of cars driven by attractive females in skirts and have the underhood tech go get the ladies to have them look at the created "leak". All this while the asst mngr would slip downstairs under her car to look up her skirt!! What a whack job he was, your typical short round bearded redneck. I heard he was caught and fired by the owner some years after I had left.

Anyways check this out, the Rockefellers (Illuminati) and the CIA froze Dwight Eisenhower out of the UFO conspiracy in 1953 and apparently brokered a deal with the "tall whites" to operate a facility at Groom Lake w/ the upside for us being zero-loss energy sources. The small "greys" have been friendly as well but have a less democratic society. There are many other races here as well mostly under our oceans, all friendly as any one of them could have ended us long ago. Full disclosure is coming soon. Im just hoping for an anti-gravity powered RX soon

Yeah, he forgot to fill it back up, there were only two cars there as well, so it wasnt a multitask issue seeming his coworker was on the other car....I have a suspicion he was a pothead though......anywho, thats a good idea to have them change the clutch and flywheel, im gonna talk to them about that today, good look man.

Hey, no prob! Ya, i wouldn't do any less that the whole thing... that would include clutch and flywheel. Tranny is just something that will make you hate your car when you keep having problems with it. Do an entire swap of everything and you wont have to worry in the future about whether if one of those other parts failed due to their mistake.

good luck!

Jiffy Lube once didn't tighten up the drain plug on one of my cars about 20 yrs ago. I caught it, while I was driving, as the oil was still flowing out. Fortunately, there was an auto parts store across the street and I was able to make a quick repair.

Jiffy lube once tried to sell me an oil flush because of sludge in my engine. Tech showed me his finger covered in something he said came from my engine. I told him I'd have my regular mechanic look at it. Then he told me my PCV valve was bad. I told him I'd have my regular mechanic check that too.

While driving home, smoke started coming out from under my hood. The tech had spilled oil when re-filling, and it was dripping down onto the hot exhaust manifold and smoking.

I do my own oil changes now, or let the dealership do it for me.

That is why I buy a tube and funnel, and get someone to help me change my tranny fluid. Plus it is cheaper this way.

At least they are being responsible for their mistake.

Ill piggy back on this topic and share a little story about a great experience at Midas. I was in a time crunch as well and needed the brake pads changed out. I had an autocross coming up and couldn't get over to the self service garage (im on a naval base) to change them out myself before the weekend. So I took the car mid week over to Midas to have them do the work. I told them exactly what I wanted done and made it clear that they were not to touch any other part of the car except the brakes. I get a phone call within an hour of dropping the car off. Its the manager asking me to please come back to the shop because there has been an accident. I get back to Midas to see my 8 sitting in the parking lot about four feet shorter in length than it should have been. Turns out one of the techs thought my 8 was too cool not to take for a joy ride. I'm sure he enjoyed it right up until the 5 car accident he caused. Needless to say I didn't autocross that weekend and I didnt get my pads replaced. The stupid Midas store wouldn't even throw in a free set of pads. They're just lucky legal action wouldn't be worth the trouble.

From that point I do all the work on my car - Ill only take it to the dealership for something major like the engine replacement I just had to do.

F*&K THE MIDAS TOUCH!!

So wait... they wrecked your car and they didn't do anything to make it right? Your insurance ended up paying for it?? That's bullshit! Any respectable place would've fired the grease monkey who did that on the spot and be falling all over themselves to pay for the best body shop in town to fix it. Thats absolutely ridiculous. Free work should have been a given.
