Yes, 4 port = standard power (210 ps) and 6 port = high power (250 ps)

You've made me study my brochures a bit more. No such thing as Sport or Touring or GT like the US. The trims in Japan are different in concept. In Japan, 210 ps is considered standard. The high power is only in the Type-S. (In the US, we think of the high power as standard, and the lower power as just for the AT.)

So you start with one of the following JDM trims:

- RX-8 (210ps) with 5 spd MT or 4 spd AT, 16" rims, cloth seats
- RX-8 Type E (210 ps) 4 spd AT (only - I think), 16" rims, Leather seats, BOSE stereo
- RX-8 Type S (250 ps) 6 spd MT (only) 18" rims, cloth seats, BOSE, fog lights

From there you can add the various options like sun roofs, leather seats (except for Type E 'cause it's std.), DVD nav etc. It's much more ala carte vs. the set packages we have in the US. The basic Type S is very close to our Sport Package in trim, but it also has the BOSE stereo.

Type-E & Type-S are priced the same (very close in price to a US base 6spd MT RX-8) and the base RX-8 (210 ps) is priced lower (similar in price to the base US 4spd AT).

yes i understood the concept from the start, but i didn't understand the whole ala carte thing with all of the things that are included in our large packages.

so basically the closest match to the USDM 6MT GT is the Type S w/ leather?

Yes. The Type-S starts off configured sort of equal to our Sports pkg + Bose. Add the sun roof and it basically becomes a Touring, then add Leather and you're up to our GT trim.

Unlike the US, where you are forced to get a sun roof if you want Bose or Leather, in Japan it's pretty much choose whatever options you want.

I believe Type-S stands for "Sport" and Type-E is for "Elegance".

Also, there are quite a few more accessories available in Japan.

I met an older RX-8 owner that ordered special from japan but i didn't go into detail how he did it.

he wanted automatic with gt package and every other option except a sunroof and he got it, I saw the car myself.

crazy, you know how much it costs to register and legalize a car for road use? about half the cost of the car itself (a GT)

or are you talking about a special ordered USDM model?
