Hey guys . . . for the past week I have been wondering what the heck the button marked 'DISP' (next to the Amb. temp button) does.

I can't find my manual anywhere plus when I push the button I don't see anything happening . . .

Can someone explain to me what it does ? It's going to drive me crazy unless I go buy a new manual.

I think it turns part of the display off..if you hold it down-- or it switches from (F) to (C).. but I forget, its a useless button..don't press it!! :-)

 

the DISP function will display the CD tract name and ID TAGS for MP3's if you have the MP3 player.

Question for you guys outside of the US that get a functioning auto-climate control system, does pushing that button toggle between internal and external ambient temp?

 

In the Canadian Models w/the 6disc changer the "DISP" butoon changes the display from the 'track and time' to show you the 6 CD slots (numbers) to know which slots have Cd's in them and which don't.

Cool! I wish I had known about this option when I was negotiating the car's price last month.

 

that's one of the coolest parts of the mp3 player, the disp button cycles through the tags of the mp3. disc(folder)/track, filename, artist, album, track title, ...uh i forget the 5th one.

i guess that's the best taht can be expected on a 1 line display...would have really liked to have a screen to search and stuff =p

 

You listed all five already: file name; folder name; title; artist; album.

DISP is for DISPLACE. Press it and the sunroof cuts loose and you fly out of the car. kind of like an ejection seat. Only press it in an emergency!

I used mine once when I thought I picked up a hot chick, when i got a closer look at her, I hit it and got the hell out of dodge.

 

I actually heard it meant 'DISPENSE' and you were ejected like a Pez tablet....Poook! :D

 

So I downloaded the owners manual and what I see is basically for my Bose single CD this "DISP" has no function ...

Kinda weird to put a button on the dash that doesn't do anything unless I am missing something !?!?

I have pressed it a number of times andeven held it down for 10 or more seconds and nothing changes . . . has anyone found a function for this button with the single CD unit ? ?

 

IIRC mine did diddly-squat until I installed the MP3 player.

You know, I thought that when I first got my car it turned off the display but now it doesn't. I remember being able to turn the display off but cannot seem to find a button that does it now. Maybe one of the flashes did something.

 

only time ive seen my display turn off is if i press the volume button but that just turns everything off!

 

Yes... It is a sort of rocker switch... Press the right side for ambient to climate control temp.. Press the left side for DISP functionality..

The other role for DISP was to brighten the display when driving with your lights on during the day - Australian cars have a dash light dimmer switch for night driving which dims all dash board lighting including the centre display.. My old Mazsda 6 used to work this way, but I have not checked the 8..
