Japanese VS European VS American What are the differences?
Some other differences I've picked up JDM vs US
Clear corners
come stdMP3 player & the good Bose system (maybe an option - don't know )
No spare tyre
3rd gear ratio
1 oil cooler
no TPS
No sunroofs
No electric seats
No problems - lol
on the options
japanese high power comes with standard:
xenon lights, climate control, mp3 player and clear front corner lights.
in contrast with the US which comes with manual A/C, right?
you can add although all the above mentioned extras.

Some one said you cant swap the PCM between export & JDM models.
I recall you can do a straight swap with the RX-7 ones as long as it was a 16-bit to 16-bit or 8-bit to 8-bit type.
Am interested in getting more power from my 03 4AT version & wanted to go from the (export) 141kw to the (JDM) 154Kw version by way of swapping PCM's.
Surely the "pin-outs" are the same from PCM to PCM..........??

I'm really interested in all this ECU swapping problems.
The best thing would be that the Cobb Accessport that is coming out would work for North America, Europe, and Asia.
Then the ECU issue would not be a problem. More people need to e-mail Cobb to make sure their upcoming Accessport for the RX-8 is "International friendly".

The "trick" is that they release North American, Europe, and Asia versions. I think they have committed to an European version.... Now if they would do an Asia version than there would be no ECU swap issues, because you would just re-flash using the AccessPORT. It would also mean there would be a lot of maps for download and a map could be used no matter the country you were from.
Yeah the ease of use with the access port was why everyone loved them for their subarus. Just plug it up and the ap does the rest. download different mod combinations of the web for it and never have to go to the dyno to get it tuned!
My 2 cents...
I have a US spec 8 and my friend has a Cdn spec 8. The differences are….
Cda gets headlight washers and daytime running lights. (no TPMS)
US gets TPMS (no headlight washers or running lights)
Everything else is the same for the US and Cdn models.

I think that European model doesn't seem to break down so often (the engine),wherever I asked they were like, what are you talking about??
My friend also has one but no problems at all...but another one had failed at 80t km but that bro never checked oil and was driving the hell out of it every day all day...it can't really work without oil...
I'm preparing to buy an RX 8 for a German market.
...could it be that different computer setups for different markets can cause engine to fail??

Wait... isn't there a difference with the oil injector that goes into into the rotor?
IE: wasn't there an ECU re-flash in 2005 to adjust the oil injection flow for the U.S. spec'd 5w20 recommendation? Since EU from the U.K. sites i've seen use 5w30?
Reason i'm asking or bringing this up i guess, is potential damage issue if a heavier oil is used (5w30 Royal Purple) vs 5w20? will the thicker viscosity oil impact how the oil pump manages delivery?

all the fat people in america are why rx8s here fail. mazda didnt calculate the toll an extra 300lbs would put on the car.

(yes yes i know, impossible because they calculate for 4 passengers..)

It's kind of interesting that RX-8s aren't failing in the rest of the world. Is that long to ECU differences, driving styles, or something more basic like the lack of desert heat?
