I'm a tad shocked by lack of Miata, while some of those cars wouldnt make my top 10, I fully understand the reasons they put them there.

i dont think the back doors are hard to use/get into. The 8 is not slow around town unless your shift at 3k rpm like stated. Either way i think its great its one of the cars they are grateful for, i know i am.

an 8 is not painfully slow around town. A civic dx for example has even less low end torque and it's one of the top selling urban cars of all time with plenty of pep around town. I don't understand that comment. around town, The 8 feels slightly peppier and more responsive than a 96 accord dx i used to drive, and that car had plenty of power around town. So the 8 can do everything that can plus much much more as soon as you rev it higher. Comment they made makes no sense. Comment they made about dino juice is also stupid. It gets comparable fuel milage to cars in it's segment, and the extra quart of oil you keep in your trunk isn't exactly going to empty anyone's wallet if they can afford an 8 in the first place. I would say it's much less shameful than getting 315 bhp out of like 5 liters for a sports car in 2010. ( everyone here already hates mustangs but ya whatever)

I think it is about expectations how a car should perform for its price/HP/class. The RX-8 probably doesn't feel that peppy compared to other cars it is class. Unless you rev it and then the MPG drops - a no win situation for many.

thing about that though...in town, the way one has to drive without getting pulled over, the limits of the 8's weak low end aren't even noticed. When you get out of the city streets, you can rev it anyway so there is no problem. It's not like you can really use that strong low end of a big v8 in town anyway unless you wanna get in trouble. In my town the speed limits are typically 25-35 mph, and even third gear in the 8 offers probably more acceleration than I would want to exhibit if i were to be driving next to a cop for example. The low end power of a v8 would be useless in town. For a car with 3000 pounds, 160 torques is easily adequate for city puttering.

I think a low torque, high rev engine is good for a sports car in everyday conditions. This means that when you putter around town, you don't have much power but who cares cuz the speed limit is 30 mph with cops everywhere, but then when you get to some nice out of the edge of town roads, you can let it loose and rev it to get the power you can actually use now. Low revving, high torque motors give you way more punch than you can use in town anyway, and on open roads they are just boring and lack any enthusiasm as they run out of breath by 6000 rpm.

Mustang is stupid, RX-8 is smart; Genesis Coupe was wrong, RX-8 was right; RX-8 is the best, 370Z is the worst. RX-8 is very good looking, Lancer Evo is not very attractive.

There, I created this template for everyone in the future when it comes to criticisms, comparisons or even praises any time the RX-8 is mentioned in an online article or printed publications.

Couldn't have done it without Happy Gilmore.
