its clutch/flywheel time!

ive looked up some clutch and flywheel combos, anyone use anything they swear by? if i could get them both from the same company itd be swell..........

there are a decent amount of choices, i just want something with a tad more clamping force than stock, basically stock feeling, im not gonna ever have huge hp on this thing anyway so the madness for the 4 puck no spring setup is not needed....and a flywheel thats pretty damn light...maybe 9-12 lbs.....

anyone have anything in particular thats a good combo?

ACT combo on rx7store.net for $725...thats what I'd say...but if I were you I'd just get a flywheel...

just get the flywheel - ACT is very popular here .

If you have to have a clutch - I believe the centreforce one is very light pedal - PM Fanman on that .

The Fidanza setup look nice. Would be my first choice, followed by ACT.

everything ive read on hear says that the exedy stage one is actually the oem clutch.

you are correct sir!
i changed a clutch on a used rx8 once.....it says exedy right on the damn thing! at least we all kno its quality then!
id rather get a whole "kit" rather than buy this from here and that from there.....i looked at the rx7 store kit and it comes with a new balancer......whats the deal with that? is it an oem balancer or is it a different type bc of the flywheel or something?

Got the mazdaspeed flywheel...actually makes a noticeable difference in power delivery with nearly zero driveability issues. Plus, it's a mazda product.

pp is stronger. exedy does make the stock clutch.

it is an oem balancer.

it does not have one. the balancer is off of a auto trans if i recall.

I have the Centerforce clutch with the SR Motorsports lightened flywheel. Engagement is actually lighter than stock. Very easy for me to shift, even in rush hour traffic. I have heard the ACT is a bit stiffer than stock.

sorry to preform thread necromancy here, But i don't think this is correct. the Mazda Stock clutch IS made by Exedy but has a diff. part number then the stage 1

OEM

after doing some research i was going to purchase this as a replacement for my VERY problematic stocker (been in 4 times in under a year for clutch related issues)
but I'm going to try my last ditch effort to call Mazda North America, to see if they can help me out.

Unfortunatetly the proper balance of the counterweight for the manual shift RX8 engine is different than the automatic. We tested them on our computerized balancer (RX8 manual flywheel versus RX8 auto counterweight). After doing some further research, we found out that the front counterweights are different part numbers and the amount of counterbalance is different. This explains why the rear counterbalance is different since the front and rear weights are 180 degrees apart from eachother (they counterbalance eachother).

I haven't heard any complaints/issues using the stock rear counterweight only, but it is off by over 3 ounce inches which is pretty significant. If you are trying to do it right you have to change the front counterweight at the same time (who wants to do that?) or get the rear counterweight custom balanced (which is what ACT does).

really,

i am not trying to be confrontational. so everyone that is giving out the mazda part no (auto trans #511 something) for an aftermarket flywheel is not correct????

or it just is not correct for act? is it the weight or the location of the weight..

this is very interesting stuff!!!!

as i am running the prolight with the mazda part.. if i recall there was not act part at the time..

btw, prolite.. good stuff..

It is the same for both flywheels... really any flywheel (if neutral balanced). Don't pay any attention to our website. We are way overdue for an update and in fact we are totally rebuilding it.
