Interesting cause cited for visor meltdown
So my visor woes continue - as the dealer was able to fix the electronics problems in my car, but the sun visor remains on order.
Interestingly, and as predicted by one of the posters here, the technician said the cause of the meltdown was not the excessive heat, but rather a leakage of some kind of acid inside the visor assembly that corroded it and made it break apart. That corrosion also caused the electronics problem.
The tech said the reason I have to wait so long for the visor is that quite a few of them across the country are self-destructing the way mine did - some causing electronic problems, most simply ruining the visor.
I know dealers and dealer service folks aren't always considered reliable, but this info all seemed quite plausible to me. And apparently, this Mazda tech at my dealer has a pretty good reputation from some folks I've talked to.
