Interested in getting an RX8 as a first car
Hi I'm new to this forum, I'm a car enthusiast, and I'm interested in buying an RX8 as a first car. I've already read a few forums about it being a first car and got mixed answers, and I'd also like to get some updated, 2013 information :D
So good car? Bad car? I also read on this page that I should buy 2005 or above to get better MPG:
How to get BEST MPG on Rx8
Is it true? What's new in the 2005 models?
I plan to buy cars off auction and resell them in about 2-3 months (to earn profit, and you can only sell 5 cars max a year without a dealers license), so I'll probably get rid of it quick anyways. But I am very interested in getting this as a first car.
Also, any tips? Thank you!

If you're worried about gas mileage, this isn't the car for you.
But if you're buying it to quickly flip it for a profit, why should you care about anything other than the market value?

Isn't the goal of flipping a product to take something that is under priced, put some money into it, and sell it for a more accurate price?
What happens when you try to do that with one of the fastest depreciating cars available?
Sounds like a bad financial decision.

oh to be young again. I should've taken pictures of my turbo Laser (Eclipse) after the second time I totalled it, that time after insurance lapsed which ultimately lead to it being repo'd.
Yup, those were some fun days.... at least when I wasn't in the bexar county cooler recovering from the night before.
Kid, buy a Geo Prizm or Nissan Stanza. You'll have far more pleasant memories of your teenage and early twenties years when you walk down memory lane at 41.

Starting out flipping cars at auctions is a bad plan since you said yourself you do not have a dealers license. I assume you wont be going to the good auctions. You can try flipping on craigslist and see how your area is, some places are much easier than others. There are ways to get around the "only 5 cars sold per year thing" if you buy on craigslist but I wont go into that, you can probably google and figure it out.

So makes sense. I shouldn't get it eh? Even though I thought it'd be the perfect car for me. Lol
Manheim Auction
No I'm saying the other threads about the RX8 being a first car are a few years old already.
Definitely. Education is #1 for me and it'd be easier for me to get to school in my own car. :P I want to have fun too
And no I'm not that worried about gas mileage. All cars that interest me don't have good gas mileage (like an Audi A4)

One word comes to mind, NAIVE!!
Still, we all have to start somewhere. My advise, read this and any other RX8 forums you can find from front to back. They all have 'new member' sections with FAQ pages.
Might also help if you actually told us where on the planet you are as advise about trading in cars, running one of these at (presumably, as you ve not told us your age either) a young age will vary wildly from country to country.
You may as well go online and ask "shall I start a shop?" without saying where, what kind of products, what captal you have, etc, etc.

That appears to be a dealer auction site. If you have a friend or family member with a dealers license then you could go, or if they hold some special sales for non dealers(Didn't go too deep into it, not sure). I wouldn't buy an rx8 at auction because of the huge chance you have or getting a bad deal. If you buy it for 4k at auction and it turns out it needs a new engine you either sell it for around 4k or dump at least 4k into it and sell it for like 8-9k+, depending on the year. The prices also depend on your location. You could get lucky and get one with a good engine but it is just a very high risk thing to buy at an auction.

Don't dealerships get some of their used cars from auctions? A buddy of mine has a license and never loses money from his "personal" cars. He changes cars every year and still comes out ahead.
I didn't buy mine through an auction though. I wouldn't buy an Rx8 without driving it.

Right - dealers get some of their used cars from auctions. Trade-ins they don't want to keep also wind up at auctions. All part of the business. Hopefully the OP knows something about the business, and will be able to stay afloat among the regulars who attend auctions as part of their living.

Yes, it's an auction for dealers. Before purchasing the car you can check it out, the engine, drive it, and everything. The point of it being only for dealers is a way you can get it for much cheaper. Since it's from an auction, it's even better than buying it from a private seller. The auction gives you the carfax, gives a condition report of ALL the damage of the car, even frame damage. (You could easily purchase a car from a private seller and not know that it has frame damage.) All scratches are even listed too. I'd even say it's a better place to buy than from a dealer, those ******** lie about everything whenever they open their mouths.

It was a money sink, for sure. Timing belt split right at 60k and sunk a couple valves and my young, stupid, reckless nature put it in a ditch, wall, and even t-boned a telephone pole.
I wish I would've been more responsible back then. I look back and wish I'd been more responsible. Not a ton of regrets, but that is certainly one of them.

dont count on you getting all the information. Dealer assured me multiple times that my 8 had never been in an accident. I had it in twice because of it not starting which required them doing extensive work under the hood. I had to find out myself 9 months later that I had a crushed bumper bar that I was just complaining about.
Dont think that 100% everything is reported. They will try to get away with ANYTHING.
