Information display- fan speed status?

I've been noticing lately that there's supposed to be something on the information display showing the fan speed. Looking at the manual on p.6-40 there is a diagram of the information display. It shows a fan icon with some bars which I assume would indicate how high you have the fan set. When I look at the display in my 8 at a certain angle I can tell that the little led's in those shapes are in there but for some reason they don't ever light up regardless of how the fan is set.

Anyone else notice this?

They're used to display the fan speed in cars that are equipped with automatic climate control, which seems to be almost everywhere except the U.S. Strange logic on Mazda's part.

just did a search... answered my question. Evidently that portion of the display is not functional in North American 8's.

At least I know now that it's not a malfunction!

Ya and you think that's bad, the Mazda6 w/o climate control has the same screen as our cars and the only thing displayed there is the outside temp. Kinda sad to see that so much space is wasted.

That is in the Mazda 6

I had a yellow Mazda 6 just before buying the my 8. It has automatic climate control and it had the working fan speed indicator. The center display is identical to the 8 and the mazda 6. My 8 doesn't display the fan speed though.

I wonder how hard it would be to get the automatic climate control installed anyway. It can't be that difficult.

Anyone thought about or done this?

I was thinking the same thing. Only thing i hate about the car is we don't have auto climate. For our crappy system, it gets too hot then too cold then hot. Never can get it perfect temp even when in the middle. It's pissing me off sometimes. Most cars have it, esp how much we payed. I was hoping we can install it after they put it on the 8.

You've got to push it and hold it for a few seconds.

I know it's been discussed before, I'd suggest doing a search. I don't think anyone has done it yet... at least not a member of this board, so that might mean something.

Also, my speedo will change from MPH to KPH if I hold the left stalk in for a few seconds.

See i did a search and here is the answer. thank goodness i did not ask first the empty space on the information dispaly bothered me. You would think , that it would still show the fan speed , even if we do not have climate control. O Well.
