I am getting my rx8 tinted this afternoon, and i only have 2 choices.... 35% (legal) and 20% (not even close to legal).

Anyone know what the fine in Indiana is for illegal window tint? Just wondering if its worth the darker tint to be fined every so often

i don't know what the fine is but some officers will actually start peeling it off for you.

 

Not sure on the fine. I believe 27% is legal but I had 20% on my Probe GT and never had any problems with the cops. One of my friends had 5% and a cop made him peel it off right there.

Just get the legal tint and don't worry about. If you go limo dark you will get in trouble. Especially in Michigan. Cops do not like it when they can't see what someone is doing inside their car.

 

i have no idea the indiana laws are about tinting but i live in illinois and you arent suppose to tint the front windows .... even though even one around chicago does it .... most of the time cops dont care that much but there are some that will bust someone just on the fact that the car is tinted

 

so no one has actually gotten a fine in indiana for tint... its either ok, or they make you strip it off while your pulled over?

or it's only a few hours after your original question, i'm not sure how many people from indiana have read this thread in that time, and don't know how many of them have tint.

 

I live in northern Indiana and use to be a cop. It's a definite issue if a cop cannot see in your car. Expect to get pulled over if its obviously super dark. Indiana State Troopers have tint meters they carry in their car and if you go into Michigan you will be pulled over even for Indiana legal tint. Michigan is ferocious on that.

 

i would concur here. i went to college in northern indiana and those police seemed much more laid back but cross that border into michigan and you saw people lined up along the highway pulled over.

 

I was under the impression that you couldn't enforce vehicle code on a car that's registered on another state. (otherwise you'd have to modify emmissions equipment on your way into california )

 

I live in Indiana and had an all black probe gt with really dark tint. I never had a problem with it while obtaining a ticket. I put 20% tint in my black cherry 8 and it's just right. The thing is, do you want to invite extra hassle?
