I'm with ya on that. Every time I see people ripping apart their cars and just fabbing everything together, it takes my breath away. One day I'll be able to do that, but for now...that's a long way away.

Update-

Well I got off the phone with Larry the salesman today and they are letting me take the RX-8 to Pettit Racing on Monday to diagnose the car. Plus they agreed to knock the original price of 14,477 down to 13,777 to incorporate the price of dealer fees since I refused to pay them. So ultimately I'll be back up to 15,200 after sales tax and tag transfer fees. And they already put two new back tires on the car.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

This is obviously going to be a daily driver and this car has to last me 5-6 years as well as the supercharger so I have to make sure I do this right.
Cameron Worth and his wife Candy are both beautifull people. I've always enjoyed dealing with them. Not everyone knows that he's been in the game since 71 and that she builds a mean engine as well.

All you people talking about engine swaps forgot one thing:

LS1 swap. If you want mad power, just do that.

no one was really talking about engine swaps but for the power this car has it's more than enough for my standards of daily driving. the car is a beast. im going from a 00' hatch with a b16a2 to this car. im more than content if everything turns out ok. im sure there are some die hard enthusiasts i just dont want to take that gamble. i could always buy another hatch for 2k and throw a b18 and turbo it for the same money but im more than happy with the the rx-8 and it looks more grown up/graduated from a 2dr fwd 2000 pounds 4 banger that could.

Went today for the paperwork and at financing they offered me a 14% APR rate. I got up and walked out and told them thanks for wasting my time.

My beacon score is 600 and I was putting 8500 down on the car. What a complete waste of time and day off from work.

I'm so pissed right now. I honestly don't know if I can sit down and talk to another mazda dealership and go through the same thing. 14%?! wtf is the point of putting more than half of the money down and going through all the ropes and I'm handed this bullshit at the end.

Honestly I'm ready to go over to Honda and buy a Civic Si with 3.9% financing and with a warranty. I didn't realize you had to jump through hoops of fire to buy a used 2004 mazda.

Why don't you go find your own loan through a bank, and show up with the money in hand for the car? Bypass the dealer bullshit?

Sorry to hear that. Dealerships will always be a pain. Just gotta get lucky and find a good one.

I wouldn't rush to get an SI though. Read what car and driver thinks of the awful steering. After like 3 test drives, I couldn't stand the SI anymore either based on that non-existent steering feel. Even my 2007 mustang gives more feedback. Plus I thought the ride was a little overly aggressive around town.

Just my opinion though because I use have a thing for the SI as well.

Well after I calmed down I contacted the collection agency I was reffered to when I was 21(27 now). After about 10 differnt 1-800 numbers I talked to a woman who found my account from 8 years ago and has documents proving I paid the account in full. Next week I'm going to follow up on clearing my credit name since I paid off the collection agency more than 8 years ago.

If the same car is there which I doubt will be gone because no one wants to deal with the supercharger and mods like I want to I'm going to go nuts if they don't offer me a 6% loan. I will write a letter to Chuck Schumacher over this bullshit. Why should I get penalized because I want the car? They know I want the car and are trying to ram it up my *** because I actually am excited about the car. F'in BS.

Still, good luck finding a car and welcome.
there is so much fail in this thread that I don't know where to begin. As far as quality goes, the RX-8 may be pleasing to the eye at first, but upon closer inspection; the materials used are second rate and the "quality" just isn't there. If you go from an RX-8 like my 06 fully loaded GT into say, a new civic SI, you'd know what I'm on about.

OP, try out the s2000, they are dropping in prices and are a much better buy in terms of performance than the RX-8. If you are looking for 4 doors, 4 seats, and a sporty feel, then look elsewhere (bmw?). If you want a car made after 2004 with a rotary engine, I guess you could look into the RX-8.

I give this troll a 2/10. 1 point for mentioning a Civic as using "quality materials" and 1 point for saying look into a BMW.

Otherwise, it is uninspired, provides weak arguments for your case, and fails to back up those arguments with straw men, that could be used later to annoy those who respond by taking you seriously.

Just got off the phone with the monopoly owner schumachers secretarys answering machine and maybe I can get somewhere if not I'll be looking at the 350z or the S2000.

14%....sure throw me 14% if I just got out of prison after murdering 3 people sure give me 14%.

Sorry to hear about the percentage they offered. Not sure if you know this (many do not) but dealerships will run your loan amount with several banks. The majority of them will reply with a percentage for your loan and some form of an incentive for the dealership. And more than likely the dealership offers you the loan that benefits them and you. Of course that does not mean the lowest percentage for you.

See if you can get loan through another bank and go back to them and buy the car. Take their crappy loan rate and then turn around and finance the car through another bank. Why you ask? Because most dealerships will be more flexible on the selling price of the car if they know they are going to make money on the back end.

Good luck

Fellas be cool guys. I think we all agree that rotarys are unique and creativite along with the underlinded blacksheep label the rotary cars have. It's a fun car and I wish I had one to take home today to simply try something new.

It's a fun car and would have liked that this car was already tuned. Sure I think for the story the rotary tells I think the RX-8 should be more powerfull.

We all are obviously into tuning cars so there's no point in cursing at one another when we all like the same **** essentially. Making points with an open ended argument is one thing but getting personal and all pissed at one another is just unnessecary.

the SI is also faster

only thing i prefer on the RX8 is the way it drives in the mountains, although I suspect the SI is probably faster there too (stock for stock).

Actually no it isn't. At least not the sedan. The 09 R3 tested by C&D had a 0-60 of 6.7 and a street start 5-60 of 7.7. In their latest cheap speed comparison test, the Civic Si sedan did a 0-60 of 6.7 and a street start 5-60 of 7.7. And not surprisngly, both had the exact same quarter mile at 15.1 seconds.

it's faster in every day driving, you literally have to rev the nuts off the renesis to get that sort of performance. it's a lose-lose because it's necessary to keep the carbon out, but it also puts wear on the engine and uses a ton of gasoline and oil. Also, K20 with i/h/e and hondata will easily walk an s2000.

+1

I did this with my RX-8 (took a crappy interest rate through Mazda Finance to get a rebate then turned it around and financed through my bank), and I'm about to do it again with the CX-7 I just bought for a winter ride. Just make sure that the loan you initially sign on to doesn't have any pre-payment penalties. They're uncommon these days, but they're still out there.

Also keep in mind that loans on used cars almost always are going to carry higher interest rates than those on new cars. My bank just told me that at present they consider '07 onward "new" for purposes of assigning an interest rate. Even with good credit, finding a loan in the 6% range on a used car might be tough.

Good luck.
