i'm da man !

as i stated wednseday i got my oil changed at the dealership and they used 10w30 instead of 5w20.i went to the dealership yesterday and ask for the mgr and showed him in the owners manual and in the warranty book that it states use 5w20 the use of any other grade oil warranty will not cover due to improper oil or lubricants .they agreed that they should have installed 5w20 and will start using 5w20 on all 8's and agreed to extend my warranty on my engine to 100,000 miles on anything oil related, parts and labor.i now have no complaints with my dealership but i still dont have respect for the maintance dept.

I am glad I saw this post. I'll have to pay more attention when I have my oil changed again. The Mazdasports magazine had a good article this month ont he discussion of oils to use in a rotary and talks about several synthetics that will work. You have to be careful though because the oil has to burn very clean.

It's nice to see a dealer actually admit wrong doing and try to make it right. 100K - nice score

Great outcome for you, but very disappointing to hear so many MAZDA service departments have no clue on how to care for our cars.

When I last checked, my Mazda dealer had only 10W-30 in stock ("that's all we can get in bulk") and thought perhaps they could special order 5W-20 if I really wanted to make a big deal of it. "We always put 10w-30 in everything."

I have my car serviced elsewhere, where they said: "of course you can't get 5W-20 in bulk, but we order it by the pallet load because so many cars require it."

A lot of you know way more about the 8 than your dealer..
You gotta learn to protect yourself against their ignorance.
Keep a dated log of everything done to your car just in case.

Quick question, have any of you guys gotten a year's worth of servicing for free from your dealer? El Cajon Mazda does that in exchange for returning the Mazda survey to them instead of mailing it in... Of course, I'm a bastard, so I'm going to turn it into EC Mazda for the servicing, then mail a photocopy to Mazda headquarters with a note explaining it all, just in case the dealer is doing something he shouldn't. Plus then I get my free oil.

Any other servicing that should be done inside the first year? They told me first scheduled major service would be a tuneup at 90k miles...

Is this standard or did I get a goodie?
