Illegal Wing

Had an interesting police experience tonight and I thought I'd share...

As I was driving home tonight I see a police check-point ahead. As I approach I rolled down both of my windows to make sure they wouldn't say anything about the illegal ting I have on them. I'm sure it was just a seat belt check so I was prepared to just get waived on. As I get to the cop, he pauses and gives me a long look. At this point I was trying to think what he was going to say. He then asks me if I had an illegal wing on my car. I have the X-men wing by the way. I said no (obviously) and he waived me on.

My question is
a) What even is an illegal wing
b) Even if I had an illegal wing, why would I say yes when he asked.

Got to love cops

illegal wing = dangerous protursions (and yes front canards count!)

anything that will injure a pedestrian if they go tumbling over your car (ie park bench GT wing)

anything that sticks out significantly further than the sides of the car (widebody spoilers on normal cars)

The relative rareness of the wing alone may have gotten his attention. I'm just guessing but the the wing might need to be D.O.T. certified.

This would hopefully keep people from breaking out the plywood and fiberglass and making their own wings.

He could have also been screwing with you.

You should have told him "No sir. Thank god you didn't ask about the dead hooker in the trunk."

Don't think for a second that Evo and STI owners get pulled over for the OEM wings, hood scoops, and even intercoolers.

They have to find something to *uck around with people about . I mean with all the cameras they have install nowadays , they have to much time on their hands .

1.We had our great police sup the other say that cops are'nt giving the same amount of tickets as last year . Yea, take down th cameras

2.He also said that there are'nt making as many arrest as previous years . I guest that if they don't make those numbers by the end of the year, they will just arrrest anyone to make their numbers.

Cops, I love em................................

i've heard that to in NYC I had a wrx with an sti wing for a bit and i was stopped and told it was illegal because it blocks my rear vision. I pulled out my courtesy badge and explained to him that if that was true there would be a recall on a bazillion cars lol. The i took the wing off because it was huge and i didn't like it...I had it for a week.

I'm going to get a park bench. When I get pulled over the Cop is going to tell me its illegal. I'm going to tell him its not and he can sit on it. Then I'm going to drop the clutch at 6 RPMs

Yeah, most cops won't pull over a Big Wheel or Barbie Jeep, either...

never thought of that. thats terrible, i've wanted front canards for when i get my body kit, but now there is no way. i could see them easily slicing a leg off and a lawsuit on my hands. no way out of that.

though i cant see the rear wings. when people get hit by cars they dont usually tumble over the roofline. they either get stopped by the windshield, or they get hit forward or upward.
