It will be the stupidest idea ever for an RX-8 in the USA.

Congrats, you'll take your investment (whatever you spent to buy it) and make it absolutely worth nothing by modifying it so drastically that it can't be licensed in most states and no person with anything resembling intelligence and sanity would ever want it.

Great idea though ... really great.

haha easier said than done! hahaha i truely doubt you are going to do it, not just some random thought to see how cool it would be. Onyl other way is to import a complete front clip. but that alone is going to be really expensive. not worth the money to look unique.

There's a lot of illegal things people do/with their cars. Doesn't mean it's not illegal though =O

Have fun with it. Hope you're a lefty.

i think he means he wants to actually physically move the components from the front of the car to the back seat- all SO that he can have a UNIQUE car...

all i can say is... if this is the average mentality & intelligence of the average american, no wonder george w got elected prez & we are dying in iraq.

god help us all.

If you wanted a unique car you should have just bought a Saleen. Custom made to the person who buys it. I mean, you'd have to wait in line for a year or two, but atleast you wouldn't be butchering an 8 then?

good point. if somehow he gets the car converted, he will have a car that will be a mutant, and have an awful time getting rid of it.

have fun!

you thing it sucks for an rx-8? how about the hundreds of people driving skylines, sylvia's, truenos, etc. Cars that where never desing to be left hand drive, like my cosmo, now that was a challenge and thank God it work ok

changing a car like this is no easy project and its got to be one of the most dangerous, I would advice not to do it unless there is no other choise and you really know what you are doing

I was at one time thinking the same way you were then after looking into it you can have a rhd 8 imported here from japan for less than you will pay for most new 8's here

in japan if you can get a hold of someone with and auction lincence you can get some cars really cheap, my rx-8 its a 05 with full mazdaspeed body and 18" volk racing wheels in mint condition with 25,000 miles and I got it for us$14,000 but with the shipping cost $1000 and customs the car came to about $25,000 (customs in my country are 45% of the value of the car)

I wasn't clear in my post. My point was that, in my own case at least, after 33 years of driving manual transmissions and shifting with my right hand, it would take a huge effort of will, conscious re-training, and practice in order to shift effectively with my left hand.

For you, the opposite would be true. Shift with your left hand for a few decades, then switch-over to your right. It just wouldn't be intuitive for a long time.

I've driven a number of times in Britain, the British Virgin Islands and a few other RHD spots. Shifting with the left can be done, but it's like trying to brush your teeth with the opposite hand. Less than graceful to say the least.

If you just want your car to be unique, just spraypaint "DUMBASS" along the doors.

Much cheaper, and I promise you that you'll be the only one with an 8 like that.
