I think my car is sold!!

A guy calls me and says he wants to buy the car TOMORROW!!! He just sold his car today and he needs something ASAP. Great news, but weird at the same time. I already have the check coming from the insurance company to get my car fixed at my local body shop from when a tree limb fell on it. This guy is coming from 200 miles away and says he would be willing to get it fixed where he is at. Now I have to talk to the insurance company to see if they can cancel that check and get an estimate somewhere else. Plus I have to cancel the rental car, cancel the body shop appointment, etc. etc. We'll see if this works out. It is a hassle but he is offering me cash and he knows I am firm.

Now that the car is cleaned out I am starting to get sad, just like I knew I would. I might take my video camera out tomorrow early in the morning and hit some twisties in the 8 for old times sake.

Just be sure he's giving you cash. You willing to share what he's giving you for it?

Either cashier's check or a direct transfer to my credit union before the keys are in his hand.

$14,700. I was firm on $14,900 but I'll take a sure sale. Not going to nitpick over $200. Cant complain about >$14,500 in today's market. Plus I've got brand new strakes and brand new RB Oil Cooler Screens which will make me a few bucks.

Ha. This legal?

He already knows about the damage and I'm sure he'll want about the same price knocked off as the check is worth.

Can't ever be 100% sure. But in the end, its a car. Its not a person. If I really really regret it then I'll be an '05 with 40-50K miles in a year or so.

But I am pretty sure. The fact that I am driving a "really nice car" doesnt really do much for me so its not like I'm going to be devastated by the change.

Well if he is willing to take the car "as is" and get it fixed himself wherever he is at, then the check is yours to keep. It should be legal because whatever you do with the insurance check is up to you.

I know of a lot of people that have taken $5000 hail damage insurance checks and gone on vacations, etc... with it and settled on driving a car with a million dents around.

Now, if he wants to take money for the repair, then settle on half of the check IMO.

btw, whats the year and mileage on your ride? I have an 04 with ~60k and all the nifty options (leather, gt, nav..etc) and thinking if switching soon. Just curious...

I might do that. I'll offer him the car as-is for $14,000 and see if he takes it. The insurance check is $1,500.

My '04 has everything yours does short of Nav and $15K is the range when I started getting offers. When I price was $16K+ I got nothing for months. Not even a lowball offer.

$15k is a good deal for you I would say. You decide on what you're going to buy?

I think you should be able to get more. Sold mine for 16k two months ago. I know the value hasn't taken a 1k hit that fast.

Good luck with it! Does this mean you are closer to getting a Speed3?

Where are you located? I'm in Upstate, SC. I had the car at right around $16,000 for months with not even a phone call. Demand for RWD rotaries aren't very high around here. The market value of a car is only what people in your neck of the woods will pay for it....

EDIT: Just saw Alabama. What year and mileage did you have on yours???

The guy isn't answering his phone. I'm not giving up hope because he sounded positive he was going to come see it. I plan on offering him the car as is for $14,000 or we can spend the next few weeks getting it repaired and he can pay me my original asking price. That's assuming he answers the phone. Hope he's not dead...

Perhaps. I want the silver but my dealer only has black in stock. I would think it would be easier to talk him down $2K or so if we are negotiating on a car he has in stock instead of having one ordered.

yes, my brother has the silver and it is sweet. I've seen a black one around town ad it looks good too. I agree, I think you will get a better deal on something that is already on the lot unless the dealership agree to doing a dealer swap (if another nearby Mazda has a silver in stock already). Good luck!

I would be a little scared to take a cashier's check, as they are easy to fake. Most banks will make the funds available in your account w/in a few days only to notify you a few weeks later that it was fake and you are screwed. That's how the 419 scammers screw people out of money all the time.

Well I will still be holding on to the title of the car until everything clears for that very reason. I am leaning towards a bank transfer to my credit union as the source of payment anyway.
