Everything will come out of your pocket. By the time you're done you will have paid for an 07 but with 10% of the resale value of an 07 because of it's age and high mileage

Dude you're making this extra hard for yourself lol. There's no chance you're going to have the transmission replaced with a 6sp unless you have 5k+ ready to dump in a car (145k) that probably needs a new engine (which like 1000 others already said is pointless). Just let it go man. Sell your car and get you an 50-06 there's plenty out there at decent prices.

OP, your logic is very flawed. I hope you make wiser decisions in your future...

what would be the causes of my car stalling when i am idling in drive? the idle is very rough, could the coils or wires, or a compression leak cause it to stall without any warning?

Again, engine/motor mounts , coils, plugs, plug wires, etc. At the top of the page there is a search icon, hit that then type in a keyword, then hit enter, a whole new world will open for you.

but again, would the motor mounts cause it to stall?

You're one thick cookie, aren't you?

Motor mounts would not cause the engine to stall while idling.
They will, however, cause a rough idle.

Engine stalling has a whole slew of potential causes.
Plugs, wires, and coils are the #1 culprit, and should be replaced as a set.
Low compression is #2.
Weak battery and starter are #3.

At least you aren't complaining that your 4 port auto is slow.

BC.

it does have a slight delay when i press the gas to it actually moving. but the idle is ridiculously rough, so how do i check my motor mounts for cracks? also, is there anyway to boost compression if it is low? or am i just SoL?

DUDE! you keep picking at the dogs they're going to bite you..just a heads up (start searching). Im surprised they're actually responding to you, when i joined I got the harsh treatment because I wanted them to spoon feed me. With that said, everything your asking has been asked 1000 times man.

Best Solution: Sell your car + buy a 6spd = car go fast (zoom zoom)

No.
This just means that your ECU is broken.

Your best option is to just let this thread die and start searching. The more you know about your car the more informed your future decisions will be concerning it. You won't need to ask these questions (which HAVE been asked 100x over) because you'll already know. Then you'll also not buy a 4port auto with 145K on the clock.

You're SOL...

Sounds like the previous owner sold the car as it was falling apart. The only way to fix the compression is to rebuild the motor. Cost can vary depending on what needs to be changed.

Converting to MT from AT isn't a wise decision. If money is an issue and you have $5K then the best thing to do is to trade it in for another car. I hear Hondas are good.

Everyone on here is bashing a guy trying to fix his car. Seriously people, if you can't say something nice, why waste the energy to say it at all? We have all made newbie mistakes - I'm still learning about my 8! And there are people who aren't mechanically inclined .... I guess I just don't see the need for everyone to get so rude.

OP: Go ask your technician at Mazda for help. If the service records are available for your engine, and it falls in warranty, have them replace it. Not free, but then you can sell that 8 and find the one you want. I'm stuck in an auto for at least another year, but they are still fun.

OP, Im guessing your a teenager and this is your 1st car, I understand you enjoy the 8, it sounds like you bought the wrong car, cut your loss's, sell it and buy the model you really want.
Raivynn, no one has bashed him or flamed him severely, yet. The information given by the ppl that have replied is valid, informed and IMO should be listened to. All the info he wants has been covered numerous times. You can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink.

this is my second car actually, i had a BMW z3 previously, and i think what mrkt said is right. i think that i am going to see what the damage is to rebuild the motor, and hopefully it won't kill me :/ Hey shady, calling people noobs and whatnot, is silly and immature. just to let you know...

also, thanks everyone for your help!
