Cool I got hit hard last night

Hit and run driver plowed into the back of my 6 month old RX8 - air bags didn't deploy but I was shoved into the car ahead of me.

Needless to say the front bumper cover is destroyed at least. Car ahead sustained minimal damage - I went under it.

The back of my RX8 is creamed - Ill wait to try and open the for my travel bags till I get to the body shop Monday- Both quarters are buckled - everything behind the rear glass is bent including the exhaust.

But the tail lights still functioned enough that the cop suggested I drive it the short distance home. He remarked that this must be a pretty tough car because the wheel wells were not shoved into the rear wheels -

OH the fellow I hit- Just back from the "gulf" He took off on foot after the hit and run in the heavy traffic and parking lots - pulled his *** out of the car - and sat on the drunk SOB till the cops arrived - God bless our troops!

Think Monday Ill pull off my Blizzacks and see if I can find a new leftover 07 to trade !

I don't think I want to wait 3 months for a new car and I still am not sure if the insurance will total this one - I suspect now (upon closer inspection) it will get fixed but it will be gone to the body shop far too long.

I am in a stinky Pontiac 4 door sedan rental - man this is a boat.

Its torn apart now and laying on the shop floor in bits - estimate is in at just under 8K$$$$$ Dealer has another same exterior grey color - but I cannot get past the black with orange/red seats - no way - he is looking for what else may be available

Also Says I should wait the three months for the 09 and I am thinking about driving my old Firebird till then. Thinking about it - and thinking its a truck compared to the RX8.

Hoping for advice on the Trans - I had just shifted into first the got hit. Sure I must have dumped the clutch - Now on the way to the body shop I HAVE to double clutch to get into first. Estimate was left open on the trans but any thoughts what could be fouled???

09 with the auto windows and auto air might be nice - LCD blind spot and backup would be cool for an old guy.

but whats up with the Miata Transmission - it that worth the wait?

This trans has always been "snippy" about getting into first - I simply assumed it was new and/or cold - and had planned on Redline fluid this summer when I got to 5000 miles.

Is hard first gear engagement common when new???? Now its really bad.

Estimate is in! Rental car is covered! Repair of Transmission is still open and estimated repair is already pennies just short of 8 grand.

My Zoomie is now laying in bits on the body shop floor

I guess I'm kind of confused.

Drunk guy hits you, pushes you into the military man's vehicle. Drunk guy takes off in car, while military guy chases him down, and proceeds to sit on him.

Is that correct? Anyway, glad to hear you're OK, hope everything works out well for you and your car!

Why does it take so long to get these back out of the body shop? Are crash parts that difficult to scrounge??? Any thoughts what could be amiss with the trans after a good spanking like this?

Will the 09 shift even better than this one did? Or why is Mazda changing that piece?

update

I have had the car back for a month now

It was scheduled to go back Monday for the Trunk Request Switch - because it was forgotten

But now I have a new Drama

Smoken Hot drove it home last night in a storm and flooded it out - in the standing water of the street.

I went back today to get it and did the dance start a "flooded" engine and it caught quickly - shot two cannons of water out the tail pipes and set a huge pool of oil running from under the car.

I guess I should be glad the 09's will be in soon!!!

She can destroy another for me - maybe in less than a half a year next time.

Wonder if warranty will give me a new engine because of driver stupidity ????
