I can finally say I am a proud 8 owner

After over 16 months of lurking here, I finally picked up my own RX-8! :D
On my way back from the dealer, I was thinking, it is going to be tough this 1st 1000 miles... to stay under 4000rpm :p

Console yourself with the knowledge that many others of us have gone down the road before you and been just as frustrated. To help you through this challenging period, try the following...

(1) Program the entire AM and FM bands and put a CD (or six) in. As you drive, switch continuously among the various "modes" and change stations. Vary the volume. Vary the balance and fade. (Good for about 200 miles.)

(2) Open and close the sunroof frequently. See if you can get the sunroof to tilt higher by briefly pushing the button. (Another 100 miles)

(3) Try the fog lights. Then do it again. Turn on/off the fog lights in tune with the music from the stereo. (Only worth about 50 miles of amusement.)

(4) See suggestion #3 and apply to headlights. (Another 50 miles.)

(5) Use cruise control rather than the foot pedal. (But don't stay too long at any single rpm.)

(6) Get up an hour early and take the long way to work. (Worth about 300 miles per week.)

(7) Calculate your gas mileage in your head. (At least 150 miles.)

(8) Put your arm out the window. Then quickly reach over and hit the "up" button. See how long you can keep your arm out the window before the window closes on it. (This is amusement only for advanced drivers who can steer with their knees.)

Assuming you haven't crashed or amputated your left arm, the first thousand miles will be gone in a hurry.

Welcome! I found I put on miles 50% quicker than in my old car. Any excuse to drive here and there. I went with Racing Beat's break-in, so no full throttle for 2k miles. That was tough, but being my first rotary, it was hard to get used to revving it to 9k (not anymore).
I thought the stereo adjustment phase went quite a bit longer than 200 miles. I just had to remember to tell the kids to cover their ears. I went through the sunroof game, too.

Enjoy the ride!

Like I said I have been lurking for a long time. I want to thank everybody in this forum. I always have fun reading the posts here.
Seems like quite a few of us (capitolgator, Manner, mcstin, Hung_horse31) bought one in the last couple of days. Late Christmas gift? :p
G-ReX, I plan to follow Racing Beat's recommendation as well.
jsh1120, thanks for the suggestions. I don't think I will do #8 though. I got the Sport package, so I don't have a sunroof. I would be nice but I rather have more headroom. I test drove a GT and my hair was rubbing the top. I find the manual seat more comfortable and meets my seating preference better.

Gambit,
The 8 was born to rev. It's time to pop the 'shift tone' cherry. To make sure, make it beep twice in a row.
